I was wondering if anyone has mounted a woofer in the raer seat of a R33 skyline coupe

i dont know much about sound systymes but dont want to fill the boot up and i think the rear seat installs look awsome!!.... the skyline has not got the fold down bit in the middle like some falcons and comoders but it looks like the woofer could still be fitted into the seat

what are the pros and cons of rear seast mounted woofers?? do they all need boxing in or does it depend on the sub you run?

i was looking into the alpine type r 12"

for an install like that, its best to let a pro do it. the alpine type r 12 needs to be in a box. it would be pointless mounting the sub just in a hole cut into the seat it will sound awful, you will need a think MDF booard box to mount it in, then you would need to match the matherial of the seat to the boax to cover it in. im no pro installer but somothing along those lines will need to be done.

If you dont want to take up boot space and want it mounted there, I'm guessing you might need to have a look at some free to air subs (i think thats what they are called) which dont need a box and use the boot as a box..

My sisters ex bf used to have 2 running like that which you could see when you folded down the middle seat

i would look at mounting in the rear quarter panels instead of the rear seats.. but my friends who own R33 skylines tend to build tyre well enclsoures or use a box that fits in the cavity to either side of the boot smile.gif

so a free air type sub dosent need a box? do they have simular sound qualitys?
Tiger
No, free air don't need a box, installing one of these drivers into whats called Infinite Baffle... so just make sure the whole area is sealed smile.gif
And set up properly, free air subs can sound awesome.

Check www.skylineowners.com I know there's one dude who's done something like that to his back seat..

Ive got a pioneer free air sub, but since i drive a hatch back, i couldnt really put it in the boot biggrin.gif I dont use the boot at all, so I built a big mutha of a box (round 100L) and mounted the sub in that. Its run through a JVC KD-G615, and an MTX amp, ans sounds a treat!!
