hi
i want to route a piece of aluminium
what router bit
what type of lubricant
then ...where do i get these

just go nuts, should'nt be to much of a prob. from memory we routed the edges on 16 high tensile aluminium beams and didn't do anything different. just add any oil to the bit in order to keep it cool. oh and dont move the router to slowly because the bit will heat up to much.

ummm - how's about you just take it to a machine shop to mill properly? - aluminium can bind stuff up pretty quickly and I'd hate to see somebody with bit of router bit in em!
(yes alu is soft but I wouldn't risk it - but then that might be cause the old man works in a machine shop lol)

I've routed heaps of alloy, I've never had a problem.
I've often used a half round bit to bell-mouth 20mm alloy plate when making intake manifolds.

Just don't grind the stuff. Thats dangerous.
I didn't get told about this until after I did it.

yeah don't grind it on a grind stone...it clogs it up and they can explode when turned on...OUCH!
