Ok
i have a ilttle bit of electrical knowledge, and a little bit of mechanical knowledge.

DO you think i should have a dip at installing it myself
This would include
- custom sub enclosures
- custom kickers
- head unit
- rewiring (this is probably my biggest challenge )

Or should i build the enclosure - stands and then just pay for the wiring and head unit to be installed???

The car is a 1994 soarer, that also needs to have a alarm system installed (im going to pay for that).

Ive had a look through all the tutorials and none of it seems to be beyond me, except the wiring.

What do you think?

Give it a go! its not rocket science. Just make sure every thing you do is organised and clean and dont go just hacking at wires to get it to work

The main question is...

If i blow something up/damage my car can I afford to fix it?

Cars are not cheap playthings and a Lexus especially so...if your not sure get some quotes or get somebody here to help out...i see too many wrecked cars and burnt out components and hear the customer compalin they can't afford to fix it...if you can afford to cover any misshaps, want to learn and muck about with your car then go for it

if you arent that confident doing it yourself i would get a pro to install ur splits and SD your doors...and put in the RCA's, power and speaker cables + whack in the H\U, that way theres no chance of u breaking parts of the car....if u mess up the sub enclosure then well mdf is cheap anyway...

do you think maybe i should build the kickers for the splits and the sub enclosures then get the wiring etc. done professionally??? SO basically build the enclosures and get them actually installed professionally?
~Sparkles~
well you dont sound too confident so yes
Kev
You learn a lot installing things yourself. I had my splits mounted in my doors proffesionally, I could have done it - but not to the standard it was done and since the factory holes were tiny it was a bit of a bitch to install. I installed the whole thing, HU amps, sub etc myself but after a while kept having problems with the amp cutting out. So I got the whole thing professionally re-done. Guess what same problem sad.gif after running back and forwards a few times turned out it was the fuseholder that was dodgy and had been screwing everything up from the word go. Since then I've built a few new enclosures done the SDing thing, installed a different amp, tried a few different subs and Im in the process (the long "its working now so I really CBF working on asthetics just at this moment" process thats been taking a few months) trying to make the boot look nice - ie new floor , spare tire easily accessable hinges everywhere etc etc.

So the moral of the story is like everyones said, if you arnt confident with the doors - its expensive if you screw up (badly anyway) but by all means give building a box and eveything a go. smile.gif
