if im installing 8" subs in the parcel tray of a VX commodore, would I be able to increase the quality of the sound produced by installing the subs in boxes but still attached to the parcel tray

subs would be attached to the tray, but there would be a box attached to the underside of the tray enclosing the subs.

would/does this work?

any thoughts or suggestions would be great

thanks

i cant see why it wouldnt work, you could try bolting the box to the bottom of the shelf and fibre glassing over it so it's airtight, but dont go off my advice alone.. i know nothing

yes in fact this would be IDEAL, as most subs are NOT designed to run in a box as big as your boot, doing that would be effectively running them free air.

Subs in the parcel shelf, with a box underneath (providing everything is sealed REALLY well) is one of the best options, keeps your boot space, fires the bass straight into the cabin.

Note that cutting holes in your parcel shelf, is illegal, and also potentially dangerous without ENGINEERED re-inforcement. In some cars, without the parcel shelf your car may crumble in entirely the wrong way. But provided you do it all properly, its a fantastic way to go.

use the OEM plates or make your own and then seal them infrom the top and box the bottom in. the idea works. did a similar thing with a 10"sub in a EL falcon a while back.

thanks everyone

the underside of the tray is quite flat, so that makes it easier.

i was planning on building the sides, bolt them to the tray then fiberglass where the material meets the metal (inside the box). On the external side just some filler to make it smooth. then the bottom of the box can be attached.

(of course there's wiring etc)

but i think that sounds pretty tight. suggestions?

can anyone recommend a size for each enclosure?

sure, if you tell us what brand and exact MODEL sub it is.

Box size depends on subwoofer construction. Different subs need different styles/size boxes.

yep they're Kenwood
