MY01 WRX
Hi Guys,

Wondering if you could play DivX movies on TV without a computer hooked to it, I am after a standalone player, is there a DVD player that'll play DivX?

Thanx
BlackIce
I've read there's a device to do it via PS2. Haven't found one yet tho
pcman
there are dvd players around that play divx tho there still rare and dunno if there in oz yet

a PS2 or an XBOX eh....hmmm....I suppose that would only be possible with a hack (modchip)?

What's the best modchip for either one of them?

Cheers,
Poida
Yeh modded xbox or PS2, the xbox has the far superior divx playback though.

There are tons of good Xbox mod chips around (i havent kept up since i got mine, which is a Matrix), and the 'best' PS2 chip is the DMS3.

But yeh, we have both a modded PS2 and Xbox, and the Xbox wins hands down on divx playback

bout time sega had a good idea.....now they just need to get the RIGHT good ideas. i still reckon the megadrive was better then the snes. They just screwed themselves with having to be the first out with the new machines. You would think they would learn.

About the divx/dvd players - i remember seein on TV somewhere that they are gonna be a standard before too long. should be interesting if they are!
Oppressa
I hope they don't become standard. Would become too public when everyone knows about DivX and then movie encryption would increase, etc.

Is it me or is it easier to just get a new graphics card or even an old bodgy one with TV-Out??
Oppressa
I use my TV out on my Hercules Prophet. Works brilliantly. Way to go I would say. Also lets you output other things to show on your TV eg a picture slideshow or clips downloaded from the net.

i too have heard xbox gives teh bext divx playback.. ps2 ones are rare as wlel i've heard..

however, ultimatley the best way i can gather to run divx's on a tv is..

1: Xbob
2: Linux chip
3: Linux DivX codec/player
4: Enjoy

that combo seems to me to be the best way to run it, cause end of the day, its a real-life linux machine, so will techniclaly play just as well as it does on any other linux machine

i hav eno personal experience with this technique so done quote me.

Depends on the situation, i have an output on my card, but it is a hassle to take my computer out to another room just to watch a movie, then take it back.

That said, i wouldnt rush out to buy a dvd player with divx support, but if i was getting a new one, then i would

I just use a long cable from **** Smith. Screw moving your computer! A 10m S video cable with a SCART converter for my TV and a 10m RCA cable which also plugs into the SCART at the TV end and an RCA to 3.5mm plug at the computer end.
