Hey all. Ive got the amp, know that those splits are what im aiming for or something of similar calibre, and only want to spend the money once for speaker wire and interconnects. (for a 3 grand front stage i dont want to poo around tongue.gif)

what interconnects would people recommend as being worthwhile, and yes i know generally more expensive is better, but is it worth getting audison sonus/top end stinger?

Are Monster interconnects comparable to that of stinger or audison?

As for speaker wire what should I be running (im thinking around 12ga, but not sure on price/brand etc)? ive got access to tara labs and van den hul speaker cables/interconnects... is it worth running some of these? or do u need cables designed for a car audio application to keep ur noise floor low as possible?

I know some of this might seem like stupid questions from some1 whose getting that gear, but I havent actually spent much time looking into interconnect/cabling up to this point so any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

No offense... but you're worrying about interconnects on a mid level headunit? Do you even know WHY you want flasher interconnects (other than because someone told you so?)

Spend up to $100 on an interconnect, $150 at a pinch. Any more, and you're just lining the pockets of some bullcrap marketing division smile.gif

garbage in garbage out. yeah i know taht much tongue.gif but id like to keep the garbage that gets to the amp as close to what comes out of the HU as possible. But as i said, i want to do it right this time, and I DONT feel like having to pull half the car apart to change interconnects somewhere down the line cause the ones i have are mediocre crap tongue.gif

having said that, thanks for your input and yeah i was sort of thinking as much tongue.gif

I do understand that the more u pay the less additional benefit u get, but in a car environment would u notice any difference between $100 interconnects and $250? (seems to be the price gaps between one series and the next).

Keep the opinions/suggestions coming people. Theyre all appreciated

In a car environment, you wont hear the difference between a $20 interconnect and a $250 interconnect tongue.gif But generally by the time you're paying $70-100 for a cable you can be sure the connectors etc arent likely to work loose smile.gif

Seriously, i've got over $12k worth of gear going into my system so far, including some of the best amps and speakers on the planet, and i'm quite content with my $70-a-pop interconnects smile.gif Try have a read of this when you have time : http://sound.westhost.com/cables.htm

Just my thought's!

Acustic Reserch (Master Series)- I'm not sure if they make the lengh for car audio application but they are absolutly clean for home audio, the cable itself is quiet thick but at the same time very limp. They look and feel solidly built and the connetion is extremly secure, and is infact air-tight! I am currently using them for home theatre and IMO the sound is clearer and 'unforced' when comparing them to my previous Monster Cable which are still clean (THX standard). Price wise your looking at around $189 for a single RCA 1.8m run (single cable- one channel).

There was a comparason done between Acustic Research and Tara Lab's audiophile cable's and they rated very simalary infact there was hardly any dicernable difference at all considering the Tara Lab's cable's are a reference cable and cost twice the price!

the difference in SQ between cables and wires is 'so not there' that i don't bother with high-end stuff either. in the perfect environment like an audiophile home audio system you may hear a difference, but in a car, not so; at least not to the point of making it worthwhile compared with other components.

a simple 'mistake' like angling the tweeter away from the optimal angle by 3 degrees may be enough to negate the benefit of $200/m speakerwire. or setting one of the EQ bands out by 2dB could impact far greater than $300 RCAs.

rest comfortably by using good quality cables and wires without overcapitalising. i am happy with the mix of gear i have and can recommend it:
*stinger bullet series RCAs: bought the cable by the meter, and separate terminals, so cables are made to length; or else premade available in common lengths
*audison 14awg flatwire speakerwire
*stinger custom pro series 16awg speakerwire
*stinger expert series 10awg speakerwire

these are all moderately priced and suit my needs. i run a very high-end system with success at SQ comps, and have no reason to change.

thanks for the input all.

i was thinking about what some1 said about being happy with what you spend/justify and i imagine id be quite happy spending up to about $80 or so on a set of RCA's but anything over that id feel a little uncomfortable spending.

next question:

what gauge speaker cable to run to a pair of dynaudio system 360's run passively. amp in boot, cross over close to front doors.

i use 12ga Stinger for all the speaker cable in my car, except for the ambients, which is 14ga instead smile.gif why? pretty much exactly why you asked, i didn't see the point in spending a stupid amount of money on speakers, amps, connectors, rca's and power cables to leave the thing that connects the final stages of the system together with unflexible, as-old-as-your-car, 5 strand crappy stock stuff...why not spend just a little bit more and sleep easier

you saying i dont sleep well nemesis? tongue.gif

i think its funny that i run stock speaker wire for the mid's and after the first comp bruce was telling everyone to listen to my midbass haha

maybe i just have the right amout of electrons flowing in the reight direction or something...

nah
its cause your boot is also ghetto
so the ghetto flows within you
