Hey guys,

A very quick question, is the Eclipse 8061 designed purely as a transport to be used with an outboard EQ, or does it have enough features to work as a stand alone unit? Other units I'm considering at the moment are the blaupunkt bremen, clarion DXZ856MP, and possibly NAK CD400

Read something about it on here not long ago, think its just a transport no onboard EQ, or time allignment etc... I may be wrong though.
Anyone else know.

Yes, 8061 is a pure deck that does nothing besides playing cds, not even mp3s.
you can use it as a standalone unit but it hard to tune, especially when it comes to imaging, as it doesnt have TA

alot of the users normally buy an extra processor to partner the HU.
Hope this helps

btw, 8061 is superb in SQ, but its old as wll (2002 model)
why dont u consider its newer range?
Alpine is a good choice as well when it comes to functionality. lots of gizmos to play with

it's not a transport in the sense that you need an outboard DAC and preamp. it is a stand-alone HU with all preamp functions (volume, fader, balance), inbuilt DAC, and RCA preouts, ready to hook straight up to amps.

think of it as a high-end no-frills HU.

adding an EQ will unfortunately detract from the great SQ it offers. that is, the EQ will become a (relatively) weak link, unless it's a digital processor and connected via the digital output. even then, the sound will take on the qualities of the DAC/processor.

I dont think the 8061 has digital out. Only RCA, i could be wrong but im pretty sure blink.gif

you're right - my bad. i was thinking of later model eclipse's which have a coax digital output - right? unsure.gif

yes. have to agree with u, and as i said in my previous thread, my system sounds more alpine than before biggrin.gif
not saying that its bad.. but i prefer the characteristics of eclipse

just wondering though, 8061 is a good sq deck, and although its natural in tonality, without TA, the imaging sucks. i've been trying with speaker positioning for a year and in the end i gave up and bought myself a processor.

any other ways?
