Hey all

Anyone familiar with Onan (petrol) Generators?

http://www.onan.com

Or familiar with petrol generators in general?

I have one in a mobile coffee van, and the buggers are charging us $500 for a major service (every 500 hours). Now I wouldn't have thought there was too much to a petrol generator, however there are only a couple of authorised resellers in NSW, so I guess they have a captive market.

So, can anyone recommend someone that knows a bit about them?

Preferably in the Shire (Sydney South).

Cheers

500 hours crap! the again one assumes thats about 30-50 weeks work?

but surely there cant be that much can go wrong with one? Is it a worksafe thing that you have to have it serviced so regularly?

generator runs about 6 hours a day during the week, so it works out to about 16 weeks sad.gif

not a work safety thing, but the generator starts running rough and chews more petrol if not regularly serviced.

yeah, that's what i though, there can't be too much to them.

one assumes the warranty period has expired?
I'd try getting a small engines mechanic (lawn mower serviceman, motor bike mechanic etc) to have a look at it. from what your saying its the actual motor that need the service more than the generator as such.

that's the plan wink.gif

BUT, i don't want to go tinkering with it without ANY knowledge about it whatsoever. cos if it breaks, my business can't run sad.gif
