Hemmm...strange

I've been using optus cable for 3 years now and never had such a problem..The free 20 Gigs d/l is between 2am - 7am rite?I personally turn off my pc at nite,I used that free d/l thingo once when my friend stayed over at my house and they pretty much just wasted all the bandwidth, but I didnt have any dropout that nite

Which plan r u using?I'm using the 12Gigs one and on my average d/l every month I use +/- 8Gigs..so pretty much sufficient enough for me without having to use the free 20Gigs d/l thingo.
Have u tried to call optus operator and ask whats going on?That mite be a good idea.
Cheerz..

Erm, Broadband is either Cable, Adsl or Satellite.
Without knowing how your connected, its difficult to work out the problem.
What type of connection do you have? ADSL? Cable? Satellite?
How is the modem connected to your PC? Ethernet or USB?

Have you checked your connection history during the period it appears to drop out? Often they can be quite informative and indicative of what the problem could be.
Dropouts are generally caused either by line faults or faulty modems. One way that is almost 100% foolproof is to test another modem on your line and see if it does the same thing. This way you will know if the problem lies with the line or the modem.
What modem do you have?

Or for that same money you can get optus cable, up to 32GB a month and 10000k / 256k

I work for a certain other ISP in their help desk - from experience it could be a couple of things. Check and see if the lights change on the modem when it drops - depending on which one changes, it could mean different things. Its possible (although not common) for there to be a glitch with the USB, and your modem doesn't actually disconnect, your computer just loses connectivity to the modem. The other possibility is the modem is dropping the connection to the server. This could be a modem/phone line/filter/telephone problem. Do you have filters on ALL the phones in the house? And are you using an extension lead on the modem, or just a regular 1-2m long one?
