1. Why is it in Wagga?
2. Why is it the week after SAS Final Battle?
Do you have any idea how much it costs to transport a car to Sydney, store it for a week, fly home or stay in Sydney for a week, ship the car to Wagga, then ship it home? It’s unrealistic. Especially from Qld and SA, Wagga isn’t a major city, meaning vehicle transport costs a lot more.
The Finals used to be at Final Battle, it’s a central location and the crowds are HUGE. Perhaps Angelo can explain the reasoning?

Phil this topic had been brought up with Angelo on a no of occasions, and well all i can say is that i agree that Wagga is not an "ideal" location for everybody...
But then what is?
What about the boys in the west?
Team Shonky is well aware of Transport costs for these long distance events... But thats the way it is...

Makes no difference to me.
Sydney = 3 hours.
Canberra = 3 hours.
Wagga = 3 hours.

having it in a major (capital city) makes it cheaper for transport. cheaper to transport cars to capital cities, cheaper to fly to major capital cities.
more spectators at major capital cities, better for db drag IMO.

combining the show at final battle and aust finals to one show would be ideal instead of having two major db drags one week apart.

not really if anything he would save cash and time, half the trophies not needing to fill in the week or worry about accommodation during the week between FB and Wagga, not having to set up twice in a short time frame, although its not like he doesnt do that at times already.

It's a shame because the loudest cars in Australia (EX 1, EX 2, SS 1-2 & SS 3-4) won't be at the Wagga Finals because transport for these cars is prohibitively expensive.
It's $8000+ to take them to Wagga.
The bottom line is we get better value for money in taking them to Sydney Auto Salon instead.

I'm planning to be there. StB as per usual.
I'm happy for Finals to be held in Adelaide, as it's central to both WA and NSW and VIC.
I don't think everyone will ever agree where finals will be held.

I think Finals should be held where the Majority of the loudest cars are for each class.

Yeah all three would show up and the rest of us would say stuff that

Ange chose Wagga 'cos of the facilities, cost, and aside from you Qld guys, its pretty central to everyone (IE. ACT, NSW & Vic guys have roughly the same distance to travel).

it dont matter where it is as i aint going so ner

nah i like that its at wagga but wouldnt mind if it were in melb either, but if it were in adel or qld then i wouldnt go.

in that case, would sydney be the ideal location? transport to sydney is a lot cheaper then wagga... would people drive to sydney? brissie is a bit out of the questions as there are only a select few hardcore competitors who would travel all the way here... but sydney isn't that much further then wagga is it?
Roddas77
Nov 16 2005, 03:36 PM
Sydney is 15 hours for me
Wagga is 9 hours
Melbourne is 7.5hours.
What are Qld'ers travel times? As I would have a slightest clue.
ripped
Nov 16 2005, 03:55 PM
From brisbane.
Sydney 12 hours
Wagga 15 hours
Melbourne NFI, 20+ hours?
The 3 hour or so difference to wagga isn't too much of a problem if you're driving. But when it comes to trucking cars, no trucking company goes to wagga on a regular basis from brisbane. it is heaps cheaper to get cars transported to sydney vs wagga.

Nov 16 2005, 04:24 PM
how heavy is the wagon ripped?
is it possible to tow?
how much does it cost you to ship a car from you to sydney?
DD Phil
Nov 16 2005, 04:33 PM
The wagon would have to weigh at least 3000kg.
I once towed a much lighter car to Sydney behind a rented Prado. It cost over $600 in fuel alone, that was 5 years ago.
It was a horrible experience, I'd never do it again.
We can get the car to Sydney for under $1000 return, which I'm doing. The problem is that Wagga is the week after that. So we have these options.
1. Stay in Sydney all week, then spend another $1000 to send car to Wagga, plus another week's hotel, car hire etc.
2. Store car, fly home for 4 days, fly back to Wagga, spend another $1000 on car transport, fly home.
It's just too hard to do.
I've got to look at a cost/benefit ratio. We get more exposure and advertising in Sydney than we do in Wagga, so we have to choose Sydney.
Plus I have four cars to think about, think about the $$$$$

i think the wagon is about 2.8-3.0T.
you will need at least a f-250 to tow it.
i am getting quotes right now to transport the vehicle, the going price seems to be about $1000 return depot to depot from bris - syd - bris. that's telling them it only weighes 2T though

and thats assuming it will drive onto the carrier and it has 5" ground clearance. it all depends on where they measure the ground clerance and how steep it is. we have about 50cm clearance at the front, and not much ATM on the back. the tires are flat AGAIN! we lose air in the back tyres pretty quickly because of the weigh back there.
we should have just registered the wagon, so much easier that way LOL

Last year TeAm ShonKy, we hired a Toyota Troopie and towed the van down there. It cost us $2500 for the trip (fuel/accom etc)
ALso took us 23 hrs both ways towing.
Next year we will do it again. But not this year

I think I've found what the problem was/is with the car at FB.. We'll see come Wagga tho I guess.
My advice: When the loud aint loud, start back at the beggining again and check all the basics. Stupid little things make stupid big problems.
