hey all im just wondering what type of music you all listen too coz your all into sq...
ive come to realise that rnb and rap will generally sound good on nearly every aftermarket system, however when you put in some fast punk rock crap starts to distort, in many systems especially those from the (red brick building)...
anyway if i want to test the sound quality in my car i always throw on a bit of oldschool marvin gaye and let the guitar riffs, bongo drums, singing and various other instruments justify why i spend and will continue to spend so much money on car audio...
fill me in on your choice of SQ music

Modern music almost universally sucks for SQ purposes. It might sound ok on a system, but its so compressed and mangled that you can make it sound as good as you can with a few speakers made from a horseshoe magnet, some paper clips and a wet bus ticket

There are still some good SQ tracks that are newish tho, but unfortunately Rock etc is pretty hard to find... i personally like listening to the soundtrack to Hero by Tan Dun, thats a very cool CD

Other than that, a nice bit of Gordon Lightfoot always goes down well, or if i want to feel more fired up, 30 For A Revolution from RATM is a good album

yeh man i fully agree modern music has such a harsh sound to it, never smooth and mellow like the sound of a record player...
this brings me onto my next point. ive seen a record player in a car from the factory, it was some up market classic car back in the 60's or 70's...man i would loooooooove!!!!!!!!!!!! to see a record player in a custom car just for the novelty of hearing some quality jazz or early seventies rock...haha

Jazz seems to be the only genre of music that is consistently well recorded. But then there is a LOT of music I don't listen to or can't stand (Westerns, pop, metal) so can't comment about those either
I'm a classical music man but unfortunately most classical isn't very well recorded. It is possible to find a lot of good recordings of soloists or small chamber groups but for the larger works (symphonies, operas, live performances) good recordings are very rare. Also, the best recordings are not necessarily the best performances.
I know the most about classical music which I am absolutely passionate about. I have over 1,000 CD's in my collection and have listened to music every day for the last 15 years. In my car, on my walkman/discman/MD player, on the plane, when I am relaxing. There is music to suit my every mood and to say things which I can never find words to say. Music is the most abstract of the great arts, and my fascination with how a few sounds can evoke such powerful emotions is a fascination that will never cease

FOR REAL amfibius...thats what im talking about, its all about how the music moves you (its a corny one liner but its true) whenever i crank marvin gayes whats goin on, it makes me so happy for no reason at all like i even start almost laughing...its random...but its good...music can alter your moods so well i love it!!!!!!!!!!!!

I listent to heaps of diffrent music, but mostly metal and old school rock... you know ACDC Led Zepplin etc. Metal like slayer or exodus will test a system to it limits, lots ot doubble kicks to max the sub.. and hell fast guitar solos to push the tweeters and midbass. I cant wait to crank it on my system.

Go the Dire Straits for SQ in the car though.

I listen to, <shock, horror> uplifting trance, deep house, jazz, and very old school r&b and hip hop. The primary reason I installed my system was to appreciate music on whole new level and I can safely say my system does that so I'm wrapped to bits.

I like most types of music. When it's time to demo my system though a few of my favourite tunes are
Michael Jackson - Dangerous album
Phil Collins live in france dvd ( i would highly recomend this, the 15 minute drum solo with 2 drummers and percussionist is insane)
Dire Straights
Diesel
Metallica - Re Load album
Jamiroquaui
Just to name a few.
P.S. has anyone got a copy of the Alpine Highway one CD? I lost mine and would love to get a copy

Acoustic tunes like those from the great band America sound great in a well set-up system, so do bands like ACDC, Deep Purple, the Eagles etc. Old school rock.I may be young(18) but 'I can still appreciate real music

I've heard a few systems that sounde fanTASTIC for dance, pop, r'n'b.
The second you tried to play anything acoustically complex, like linkin park,
or fast and tight, like disturbed,
or quite and pure, like a good jazz track,
and it turned to crape.
Mine used to be one of them
Right at the start.
But if your taste is purely modern dance/house/pop/rnb, then your in heaven.
If your taste is above, but on a damn quality system, then your in nirvana.

My system was largely built and tuned to the sounds of James Taylor (folk) and Michael Buble. But I carry and listen to a large range of music from Phil Collins, Mandy Moore, Carole King, Alicia Keys...the list goes on. Stuff that I don't carry is heavy metal, though I did make 1 complimation of it for when I carry head bangers in the car (which is very rare).
I recently bought the new Daryl Somers CD after doing photographs of him for a couple of years. His voice at concerts is amazing, but I've yet to try the CD in the car as it hasn't arrived yet....2 days time...arghhhhh!!!

beth orton is another one, 'pass in time' i think the cd is called, its a best of to, but all the albums are incredible' very clean with lots of depth and spacialness.
sarah brightman's 'Time to say goodbye' album, she's got that song on like 4 cd's but i think this cd sounds best its the one with andrea bocelli, and the song 'just show me how to love you' with jose cura.. massive dynamics and emotion is a very demanding and powerfull song, her versions of nessun dorma are good to....
the manowar version was not good
