150.1.. was it a blue Mirage? They are Lorentz woofer if that car.

Any StA scores??
blanketman
i cracked 145.4
im happy
now the bug has bitten harder
Tiger
I know HSV! That burger have tasted sweeter than honey!!! hahaha

Yes TEG, it was Rodazz77 with the Blue Mirage. I could've sworn he got a 150.1.

The MTX Calais with 3 x 95 series MTX 12s got 137.9dB to my knowledge.

The Cadence van... I last saw it do 149 or thereabouts...
~Sparkles~
There was a young guy there in a little Mazda who improved his scorse greatly who isnt a forum memeber I hope someone twisted his arm to become a member!!!
It was good to see guys like him competing - it was probably a good event for guys like that. I woul have like to have seen some more "serious" cars though. meh.

Oh and one more thing for blankey - "two fifteens in box" "two twelves in a wall"
Tiger
yeah.... and over 4500w per sub difference wink.gif
agent_felix
ST A scores?
Pyroay
Rodazz77= 150.1 in qualifying. They are lorantz 12"s with 5,000rms bewteen them.

Great day my first day officiating at an SPL event and it was a great experience... Looking forward to commencing running SPL comps in VIC soon.

Well done to all some ogood personal bests scores although not some of the high numbers overall i eas expecting.

 anyone care to elaborate on this????

whats the deal??

Blanketman......The SPL bug is a hard biting bug that is near impossible to cure, be prepared to spend hours working out what your next upgrade will be and how you will afford it smile.gif
Tiger
I'm assuming he was talking about the Cadence Van
blanketman
nah
we were talking about futeure plans when we were having dinner at double dogs

and Db barina
the bug was itching a fair while ago
but we have no events down here
and today was the first time i entered
i used to always go to all the events
but i never had anything to use
well decent any way
and now im using about 500 or so watts(havnt tested that bit yet)
and two oldschool 12inch alpines
so i was over the moon when i hit 144 in morning testing
and even more over the moon then i got over the 145 mark

sorry i didnt spend more time inside
just so tired
had my sugar buzz in the morning and around luch
but after that
sleepless nights finally took its toll
Pyroay
Blanketman finally hit 145 after hovering arouond 144.5db all day.
Must have been the 3mm port shaving that did the job.

Nice owork by the way with that file, i'll post up some pics as soon as i download them off the camera.

I thought 150 from 2 x 12"s + single amp + onyl 1 front battery was quite good, especially since lorantz dont have much of a name in car audio. I oown a set of custom made Lorantz PRO audio sopeakers and they perform nicely but i have not heard of them used in Car audio applications beofore.
Tiger
I think I've heard that conversation too (shrugs shoulders) ah well.. future plans tongue.gif

As Blanket said it came from sitting at Double Dogs eatting Maxi dogs.
Every time something came up about anything car audio related it was.
"wall the mazda with 2 twelves"

or

"Just put 2 15's in a box and stick it in the rangie, youve got plenty of amps..."

its a shame i only have 1 12 and no 15s though.

But after seeing how excited Blanket was i might get my bum into gear and buy something to play with hell im only ment to have 1 passenger any way tongue.gif
APS
It was a good effort from all competitors and it was good to meet some of you at the comp.

Hope you guys keep improving your scores and if i can do anything more to help dont hesitate to ask.

Shieldsy
nice scores in street b...
can't wait till finals roddas!
Roddas77
Cheers Sheildsy! I was only running half power too as I had battery problems so was starting at 12.8V and dropping to below 11V (whilst only drawing 220A). So hopefully it will be all sorted by finals. smile.gif

There was a 150.2dB in my second run which was a PB! smile.gif

yes they have to be road registered. and they must be able to drive into the lanes.
mooseBoY
Slider Street cars dont have to be registered as such, just in a semi-street condition, but you must be able to drive them into the lanes, The Shonky Van has never been registered but has competed in street max 3-4 at 1x 2x and 3x events and passed scrutineering.

Michael @ Lotantz in Dandenong is a great guy + re-cone kits for his speakers are pretty cheap too....

Always an important consideration for SPL'ers...

so who owns what setup?

ps. i thought duct tape was banned LOL
Roddas77
Not banned yet John, maybe next year... Mine is the 2nd 3rd and 4th pics in the 2nd lot.

you sure you got enough timber in that box? LOL

how did the ss3-4 car go? looks cool.
Roddas77
Yeah the box has been patched a few times. It's pretty solid! No Flex there. Timber and gaffa tape are the trade secrets. wink.gif LOL!

The SS3-4 car didn't really get off the gorund. It ended up with a 150.6. He had issues with sub phasing and amplifier wiring. The 150.6 was in the final after he took it back to basics with only four amplifiers, one driving each sub (leaving the other 4 amplifiers dormant). It has potential as the power source is rock solid and the amplifiers should be able to produce more than enough power (8 ZRS-10's), the weak point will be with the Beast Master subs as was the case with the Cadence Excel. With some testing it should produce some pretty decent numbers I would imagine. He's got a hell of a lot of work to get anywhere near you though John. smile.gif

it's good to see more serious walled cars out and about in australia. thumbs up for trying.

first days testing in the wagon we managed a 156 from memory using 4 dd subs 4 d3's, and i think 4 or 8 batteries, can't remember how many we used for testing, i think it was 8. i then bought 20 batteries, but we only used 8 of them for testing with the 4 d3's and got the score to a 161db.

this is where GCCS stepped in to give us a hand with amps. i managed to get 16 (yes 16!) of there prototype epsilon 2500d amps. it took david and i whole weekend to fit 20 batteries and 16 amps. we finnally got it down i think sunday morning at 2am up at his farm. i did a couple of low power burps to see if it worked. seemed to work, but was quiet. so i let it rip full power. i think it got 155db, ended up tearing a 9515 apart, and smoked another 5 or so amps in the process.

turns out we either stuffed up the amp wiring or forgot to flick a switch here and there when we strapped them smile.gif anyway, massive damage to expensive car audio gear, low db score. i was over it. LOL

anyway, the first show it went to was BAS 2004 when it did a 159.8db using only 8 2500d amps @ 1ohm. back to basics, one amp per coil tongue.gif huge tahnks to dd audio and gold coast car sound for standing by us.

at the end of the year we trucked the wagon to FB 2004 in sydney to register 163.0db using the same 8 amps, but this time we used dual 0.5ohm coils. sound deadening and also more baffle rounding was done to improve the score as well.

gold coast autosalon was the first everyone saw a long awaited epsilon 5000ds. these things were huge. i only managed to get 4 off them at the start. they turned out to be extremely stable amps, and to this day we have never had a problem with them. so we wired 4 amps @ 0.25ohm to get a 163.8db.

a few months later, a car in SA did 164.4db i think in may. being a lazy person i am, first thing i did was get another 4 amps LOL. we just needed more power was my excuse. anyway it worked, thanks again GCCS, and off we went to a 1x event, x-torque auto showdown with now 8 amps @ 0.5ohm. 164.8db, cool. we got the record back. tongue.gif

we took the wagon to BAS 2005 a month or so ago and this time we got new woofers, thank you DD audio. we got 4 brand new 9915 'c' series woofers. unfortunately, the baskets were a little bigger and would not fit the hole that were cut out for the old baskets. we found this out an hour or so before the db drag, so yeh, we just put them in anyway to see how the would go. 164.3db. not bad for new woofers that didnt fit in the hole.

so yeh, not sure what is next for the wagon. it's going to FB again this year. no real changes to it, just tired of working on that wagon now. i might cut the holes a bit bigger so the subs fit in, but cutting a 150mm baffle isn't the easiest thing to do!!

All in all, it's not easy work to build a walled car. a lot of work is involved, and without sponsership, this wagon of ours would have never been as loud as it is. Ok, i'm hungry now, off to lunch tongue.gif

So Ripped it seems like a lot of other things it's the law of diminishing returns. A lot of extra effort and money required to get from 159 to 164db....

Yeah that's generally what I've found. It's relatively easy to get 80-90% of they way there, but it gets progressively harder, costly and time consuming on getting the rest right. It's all part of the fun. Well so I've been told. smile.gif

Nice box you've got there.. who'd have thought a design like that would work so good with those old subs eh ? wink.gif And so little power tongue.gif
blanketman
hehehe
yeah

gonna get some real testing time on the meter
and hope to go a little higher before using some other equipment
Michae1
flare those ports on both ends, should see a decent gain from that.....

even try going back to just one port
Shieldsy
less port area i tells ya!
and yeah as stated flare those ports.
when i flared one end (other end was already flared) i gained 1 whole db.
something to think about.
Fudd
and screw down those..... ahh never mind tongue.gif
BlackIce
Shieldsy and his small port propaganda.. *shakes head* last time I listened to you I lost 1dB tongue.gif
blanketman
hahaha
i didnt even get a chance to flare the port and do much testing
the box isnt even tuned yet
i had flared ports but crap happened and i couldnt get them finished in time

in time my friends
and i will be playing with you big boys
APS
Oh yeah bring it on smile.gif.
blanketman
i said give it time
i need decent equipment first
hehehehe
as i can only go so far with my set up
but i will go that far with it

it may not seem like a lot, but 5 db is a huge gap. but you're right, we can do 60's with one amp, 64's with 8... thanks david for bring up the old picture. btw, the testing was only done on a 14v setup that dropped to 11v? during burps smile.gif
Pyroay
Yes i understandf that 5db is a huge gap.

What i mean is initially you can get
145db with say 1500rms and 2 x 12's in most hatchback type cars

Then to get 150db it requries a lot more planning + heaps more power

Then to get high 150's db requries soe serious planning and equipment

To get over 160db requries high end SPL gear and tons of amps...
