Full Version: Testing a Street A Mirage setup

Hey guys just did some testing today of the new box i built for my Street A Mirage.

The floor is fibreglassed and utilises a slot port. There was no tuning involved i just threw 3 bricks in there to lift the tuning frequency slightly.

Anyway the equipment used was to begin with 1 Soundstream XXX Goliath 6500D and 2 Tarantula T410 subs for a top score of 148.7 the amp was loaded down to 1.2 ohm.

Then we thru the DD 9910 in wired in series than parallel for a 0.5 ohm load. The score went up to 149.7.

Then we strapped the other XXX in onto the DD 9910 and wired each coil in series and wired both subs in series. So total impedance was 2 ohms therefore each amp was operating at about 1 ohm each.

Score 150.6 ohmy.gif thats 0.1 higher than the current record.

Then we followed up with the two Tarantula T410 subs and wired the coils in series and then paralleled the subs so each amp was seeing a 0.5 ohm load.

Score 150.2 ohmy.gif

The difference in price between the two brands of woofers.

DD 9910 dual 0.5 ohm coils - $2199 each

Soundstream T410 dual 1 ohm coil - $699 each

Here are some photos of todays testing.

PS. This is not an attack on any brand just a testing session between the brands that i had available to me.

Finals will be fun B)

I'm spewing I ain't going to be around to see this happen at the finals! DAMN!
I tell you what though... them Tarantulas were loud as! George didn't give me the "full blown demo" as he would've liked to.. but what I did hear, was loud for me!
TEGBOY
Very nice... but can the amp be mounted on teh back seat like that??? For StA, the seats must operate as normal.. will the seat close with the amp there?
APS
The seat operates perfectly where it is currently.

Everything closes up and the parcel shelf goes over the top.
agent_felix
what state are you in?

well you said you wanted to see a number out of them. I don't have a headunit that works, so I found someone who does wink.gif
Michae1
haha, knew it......oh well, numbers are numbers.......good to see, now go do it in your car....... tongue.gif
KAL SPL
Nice smile.gif
Big Paul
Go the Mirage and go the SA boys. biggrin.gif Good to see something happening in this state. biggrin.gif

Good work on pumping those numbers out tongue.gif

so with the dd's the amps were seeing 1ohm each. and with the SS, the amps were seeing 0.5ohm each... that's just as useful as my 4ohm vs 0.25ohm test biggrin.gif j/k

will the amps burp at 0.5ohm strapped? try it and find out smile.gif

Yeah the amps will handle being strapped at 0.5Ohm, but battery voltage drops to around 9V I believe, thus the reading is less than when they're strapped at 20hm. From memory it was 150.1 strapped at 0.5 with the DD's I think. George can clarify.

Nice smooth wave form too at 150.6! smile.gif Must be the box I reckon.

SA boys are going for StA and StB double. smile.gif

time to try a 4th order bandpass??? tongue.gif
Roddas77
Yes I've done the calculations for that already. It wont fit in the Mirage. Needs to be 180L, so I'd have no room for amplifiers! LOL!

use 18mm mdf tongue.gif

mmmm nice score.
sa going for a and b hey?
i think a.c.t might have something to say about that.....
hope to see you guys in finals!

We'll be there, you just make sure you bring the competition. smile.gif

argh... if only you's were there last year... i've moved onto super street now smile.gif

dont' worry mate the competition will be there for sure!
come back to the B Johnny you know you can't resist it.

I actually wasnt doing a comparison really i just had woofers that i wanted to test in the new box that myself and Rodney knocked up smile.gif.

He did the walls i did the fibreglassing, baffle and port oh and the bricks in the box smile.gif.

I already strapped those amps with the DD's in series than parallel which provided 0.25 of an ohm per amp. The amps handled it without a hitch.

I havent been able to send a XXX into protection yet. The amps will burp comfortably at 0.25 of an ohm and will go down as low as 0.125 without a hitch.

As far as the waveform goes if you have a good look the T4's and the DD provide a smooth waveforms at their top scores.

Like i said guys this was not a comparison but more of a showcase of what im up to in testing.

i would have posted a score BAS 2005 just to keep you guys honest, but a few days before the show the astra had a melt down and the engine got bend values and hence was in for repairs come BAS 2005.

i might post a score next year at a show just to see where abouts i am in comparision the the rest of the country.
APS
Why not you built the bandpass yet?
ripped
the old bandpass i still have. might build a better one... one day lol
