Hey, im sure this has been answered but im also sure ive searched alot but cant find a straight out answer...
Basically what i want to know is if there is any HU that can actively run a three way front system and a sub. I would also like TA and Eq etc...
Also if the above isnt possible, does this mean i will have to get some kind of processor. If i do is there any point in getting a high end HU or would i be better to buy a basic HU and a good processor. Thanks for any help....

by "run", i figure you mean 'has enough preout channels to send signals to amps to provide...'.

you are wanting 8 channels, each with suitable xover settings. i don't believe there's a HU out there that suits.

as you're thinking, a good option would be a processor. alpine offer excellent value processors which will cater for your needs. something like the PXA-H701 provides 8 channels of outputs, with adjustable xovers on all. and indeed, you could simply use a cheap Ai-NET HU with one, as you will rely on the 'RUX' remote control face to make all the adjustments, and simply rely on the HU for control of volume/balance/fader/sublevel adjustment (which actually take place inside the processor, with the HU merely acting as a remote preamp).

to reap the full benefit of the processor, you will want a digital input, in which case you need a high-end alpine HU with a digital output; so it's a lot of money to spend on a HU merely for the digital output but hey, some of us do it. biggrin.gif mind you, the audible difference between the analogue Ai-NET audio connection and digital is NEGLIGIBLE, so i wouldn't sweat over it.

8-Channel 4-Way Crossover
With Multimode, it’s possible to create a multi speaker system with each band (HIGH, MID, LOW, SUBWOOFER) driven by an exclusive amp. The Digital Crossover function lets you make fine and precise adjustments to each frequency range to bring out the full performance of each speaker and create an extremely natural transition. Setting of various types of systems, including 2-Way and 3-Way, is
possible. And with adjustable settings for cutofffrequency (315Hz~), slope (-6dB, -12dB, -18dB), gain (-24~0dB step), phase (0°/180°), etc. for each band, it is possible to precisely adjust the sound as desired directly from the head unit. You even get all channel muting which can be helpful when adjusting the system.
• MULTI MODE
Used for reproduction of 2-channel sources. Even if currently using a system with front and rear tweeters/woofers, you can create a new system with HIGH, MID, LOW, SUBWOOFER by adding an amp for tweeter, midrange, woofer, and subwoofer in the trunk.

sorry for long post.

the PXA-H701 retails for $999 tho alpine knocks down the price from time to time.

the h700 is the previous model and is just as good, the one b4 that was the h600 which is still a quality processor...
Brucee
the 701 that retail for 999, is only the brain unit, u need the rux which cos another 399 or 499. while the 700 include everthing for 1399, so basicly alpine haven't cut the price.
jas
clarion hx-d2

or you have to get a processor like the alpine pax-h700 or pxa-h701

pxa-h700 includes rux-h700 = $1499 rrp
pxa-h701 $999 rrp
rux-h701 $499 rrp

you will require the hand set (RUX) if you dont have a headunit that FULLY controls the pxa-h701 (which is sold separately to the handset controller).

the alpine h700/701 can be stand alone and not used with alpine head units. But if used with alpine units with AI-bus then the head unit can be used as a master volume-control or some of the top of the range headunits and screens can fully control the h701 not just volume.
