okay i'm thinkin about getting a cheap alpine headunit with bass engine pro for 2-way active features, so i'm considering the purchase of a 9835/9855 ..

my question is, if i buy this and then get a very average amp to go with it .. eg. jaycar 4x50 or 4x130 will i notice the difference between say ... an audison, phoenix gold, boston, diamond .. u name it ..

my current costs will be
alpine h/u $500
deadening + wiring $200
some midbass + vifa tweeter (maybe xt25)

i was hoping i could save some money on the amplifier !! smile.gif

where can u buy 9855 for 500? that not the cheap alpine model, that the top of the range.

there will be noticable different between jaycar and audison vrx amp

ok i wanna buy the 9835/9855 second hand .. doesn't really matter how much i pay, im gonna need one for an active set up.

my question really is about the amp, i'd love to know how the pricier amp would sound 'better'. the frequency response would be audibly the same, and im pretty sure, watt for watt, it would amplify the sound the same ?? noise levels on the jaycar could be higher but i dont think it'd be audible ?

what do u guys thing ? i mean i think deadening, equalization and speakers make the most difference. i've never heard anyone say 'yeah the weak point is ur amp (or speaker wires)' unless the amp is underpowered or REALLY SH*T ($50 amp)

the difference between amp is audible, when i'm using my crossfire amp to run my dyn audio, the dyn sound harsh and tiny, then i switch to alpine V12 , the dyn sound much better, clear without being harsh.
but still not there yet for me

each amp have it own characteristic, some bright, some harsh, some mellow, that's why each amp sound difference.

especialy for active setup, the difference between amp even more audible.

in the alpine catalogue they have reduced the 9853 down to $699

i think it has bass engine pro...but you better check on alpine site to make sure

ok had a look heres the specs:

This high-class head unit is extremely powerful and sophisticated. It features Alpine’s unrivaled Bass Engine Pro sound tuning, including 6-channel digital time correction and 5-band parametric equalizer. 3 pre-outs

i've heard reports from installers that even the budget alpine V-power amps offer superior sound quality than jaycar amps, in terms of clarity and 'openness'.

if you go and use jaycar amps, you might as well go with a $300 HU and 'passive'.

stuff like a 9855, with an active front stage, warrant decent quality gear, not cheap budget stuff.

going 'active' is not a cheap proposition, so simply do it properly or don't do it at all i say. biggrin.gif

The CDA9833R (the non 'R' is not sold any more) is $699 and DOES have Bass Engine Pro.

The differences in sound quality of amplifier CAN be heard if you know what to listen for. But the difference is negligible compared to the price differential. You have to decide if double or triple the price is worth the supposed SQ benefit.

Why hobble a system like that by using a Jaycar amp?...Porsche don't put retreads on their cars, they understand an acceptable level of performance requires a high quality tyre...this also applies to amps and system components...if your gonna limit your system by going with the Jaycar you may as well buy any entry level deck as a source

if its negligable(hint check spelling wordsmith lol) it cant be heard. if it can be heard, it can be heard. Its not about the price difference, it either happens or it doesnt. please learn to use our language correctly lol

OK despite what ppl on jaycars payroll may tell you, there is more to an amp than just $s/watt. The other brands you mentioned have better power supplies, dampning factor, crossovers etc and so will effect the end result. you dont need golden ears to hear what sounds better as better sound is obvious to even untrained ears
