Hi,

OK I finished my temporary install and will take pics tomorrow in the installs section after i clean everything up.
Im curious as to wat db reading would i get with a pioneer 255c in prefab sealed enclosure powered by audioline 2ch al1600 at 300wrms bridged mode. Power wiring is 4awg and rca's r stinger hyper series. Battery is not that good, some cheap one thats already in the car wen i bought it, small too. And alternator is brand new jsut replaced. If that helps.

Lets say my tuning is all ok, wat would the score be roughly?

Thanks alot
DeeCee
1 x 10" and a 2 channel with 300wrms.. around 130-133db if you've tuned to transfer function of the car

Thanks for that, i also want to add that the car is a hatchback, toyota celica 1990 to be specific.

Ill be tuning the sub tomorrow using a multimeter and test tone cd.

i have owned a 90 celica and currently own a 90 gt four A smile.gif

transfer function of the celica is 48 hz to 50 hz smile.gif (commonly known as res freq of car..)
tune your port to 5 hz below that and watch the db go up some.. lower tuning = more xmax, but you still have transfer gain at 48-50 hz smile.gif

face into tailgate and burp it - you may find that without optimal tuning you'll be looking at 125 - 130.. its dependant on port tuning, sub and power on tap

best of luck biggrin.gif

The enclosure for the sub is sealed not ported and im not planning to build a custom ported box until i get my dd's as this is a temp install. Would u know wat freq to tune to if its sealed, or i dont use the test tones and just tune by hearing clipping method.

Hows the gt4 big difference in power and fuel consumption, im happy with my sx, i just bought it 2 days ago. Engine power is enough for me for now.

jinks.. sealed 10 hmm.. can't do much now then.. gain from transfer function - possibly up to 6db to be gained.. ask someone to help test using a tone disc, check tutorials on how to make tone disc.. aim for between 45 - 52 hz final freq to play at comp smile.gif

bed time - its nearly 12.30am here in NZ.. others around will help out smile.gif

gain from transfer function

Could u explain this sentence, dont quite understand
DeeCee
all cars have a tuning frequency.. be it our celicas which are "tuned" to 50hz +- 2 hz either way.

if you tune the box or play frequencies that cause the cars tuning to be used, you can gain up to +6db - what i said in a hurry was that you can't tune the box since its built, so you'll have to make your db gains by playing your subs to the tuning of the car.. (think that the car is just another box..) ie play tones that make the most gains at the resonant freq of the car smile.gif

ok thanx 4 that, i get it now smile.gif

a ported box tuned properly is only a 3db gain per sub so if ur only runnin one sub its only a 3db loss in a sealed box, 6 db loss for 2 subs
1 , 10 inch sub powered by what ur runnin in a sealed box should b runnin between 125 - 130 db !
bob
lol now thats what I call a generalisation.

People often quote 'ported is only 3dB louder'This has appeared, because drivers that are ported specific tend to be 3dB more sensitive due to a higher Fs. This is the driver itself.

The actual response can be much more louder ~10dB- especially when considering low tuned ported vs sealed, or SPL tuned ported vs sealed. You dont get something for nothing though.
