Howdy,

I'm running an Alpine CDA-9833, and have just setup my Time Correction, using Alpine's i-Personalise with very good results smile.gif

Is there any point in using the Bass Focus feature on the HU? I have been a lttle confused over this, because my understanding is that the Bass Focus allows you to bring the bass to the front, by using manual methods. Doesn't the Time Correction do the same thing?

I'm aware that the Bass Focus could be used in different situations, where Time Correction is not being used, but thats all i can think of. So, i'm just seeking a little clarification.

Thanks.

JMlab.
they are certainly in some way related because when u adjust t/c settings the bass focus has change too, im curious to know also if there is some different function of bass focus for fine tuning as distinct from time correction....

yes, i'd suggest using one or the other. i prefer to use 'manual' time correction.

the benefit of bass focus is that it 'links' 2 speakers together when you make a change (eg: both fronts, both L speakers, both R speakers, both rear speakers), making it slightly more convenient and quicker.

I do know what you mean. Whilst i-Personalise is a handy feature, I believe I still need to make some fine adjustments.

Ok. I kind of understand. I'm basically not even using my rears (I've got the fronts faded to 10 on the HU), so, if I set my Time Correction, would making use of Bass Focus be pointless? I might just have to go out and play around me thinks...

bass focus is still useful for you, as it delays the fronts relative to the sub. where the sub is further away from your ears than your front (as is the case with most systems), using bass focus to delay the fronts helps with 'upfront bass', bringing the sound of subbass further forward (which is good). basically, it gives time for the subbass to 'catch up' in time with the fronts, reaching yours ears around the same time instead of being a few milliseconds behind.

the way i found easiest was to measure the distance from sub.. then use TA to do my speakers.. which are FL - 0.4 and FR - 1.6.. this then puts the delay between my fronts and my sub to exactly the same time..

the biggest use for bass focus i can really see is when you are using a ported enclosure, use WinISD or a similar program to calculate the delay from your port, then use bass focus with this figure, and it will put the port delay in sync with the rest of your system.

Im stumped how to time aline my setup, as i can adjust the time alignment of each horn and each 10inch seperately. If i change anything u can hear the sound move but sounds the same to me blink.gif

as far as i'm aware, if you go into "bass focus" and use/set it while you have time alignment on...bass focus will reset and override any settings on the speakers you change.

I found it best to set delay on the main speakers first, then fiddle with the bass focus.. but when the head rest of the drivers seat sits inside the port the feature becomes a bit pointless tongue.gif

Yes, I'm sure this is the case. So long story short, and as far as I know, you can't use both features together.

bass focus does not overwrite your TA settings, it simply takes both your L and R settings for either front or rear speakers.. and adjusts their delay equally from the sub itself.

say these are your settings..

F-L 0.4
F-R 1.6

now you adjust bass focus, those 2 settings will be locked together and be adjusted to say.. 0.5 and 1.7 etc etc

also, your TA settings keep the same 0.4 and 1.6 in their own area so that it isnt confusing if you want to go back and adjust them.. and the bass focus will adjust around however you change them biggrin.gif
