Full Version: Hahah, positive chassis

Lol, i just had an image in my mind of a positive power chassis, with direct cabling for all grounds, instead of all power wiring.
Its logic defying, and fairly stupid, but i just KNOW someone out there has done it. tongue.gif
It just sounds....human.
Someone, prove me right?

I don't really like the word ground.... it's just a big negative cable.

If they hadn't cocked it up back when they discovered electrons and had actually got electron flow correct, you wouldn't be far from the truth IMHO, although it would still be called a negative earth.

But you could never do it the other way around anymore because the entire world is on a standard smile.gif

remember, the electrons don't give a sh!t which side we call positive and negative.... smile.gif
Liquidity
And heres me thinking a constant positively charged chassis would cause all sorts of corrosion difficulties.
stazed
well hmmm you could test it if you like. Take out all the fuses for all your electrics. Swap the negative and positive terminals. See if your car rusts tongue.gif

I could well be wrong but I just can't see how it could be any different. If I swap the terminals at the battery the electrons will now be flowing from the chassis into the battery rather than from the battery into the chassis.

Either way no difference. I could move my ground point or move the battery to the boot and change the direction the electrons flow.

Maybe I've missed something but + and - only seem to be descriptors.... why can I touch a negative cable but not a positive one? Simply because I might become a link to another negative surface. But if it was all the other way around, now could touch the positive but not the negative.

Until proven wrong I don't see how electrically anything has changed. It's like swapping poles on an AC current - absolutely no difference.

Yeah then try starting the car and see what happens to you alternator tongue.gif

welcome to the 60's
Audio Express
then again you could try fitting a radio and amplifier to a 66 MGA or early 60s morris minor.......

only just beat me to it..
Fudd
or in your own words liquidity - www.f***inggoogleit.com !

Loved it - loved every damn minute of it

C'mon say it again for me
Liquidity
I did. "positive chassis" etc and all variations yielded nothing.
Fudd
try positive ground veHICLES.

you need to direct that a little better

was it for me, liquidity or komodo?
Liquidity
dont forget audio express biggrin.gif

And i had more luck searching for positive ground veHICLES. smile.gif

Cheers all, interesting material to read now.
Audio Express
notice how the majority are british built... (I think there was a VW in there as well but I'm not sure.)
bob
It was directed at all of you mwuhahaha

Cmon Rob, with sexy boobs like yours, I couldn't direct it at you. Aimed 100% at liquidity
Fudd
hehe just checking my well breasted friend.

What beats me is the fact that nearly every 12v automotive product you buy says "designed for use in/on 12v DC negitive grounded vehicles only."

So does that not suggest even without doing a google that there are positive grounded vehicles? - infact a positivly ground vehicle kind of makes more sence to me due to electron flow - and yes im one of those tossers who thinks all grounding should be done back to the battery
Luke352
Hmm bit late discovering this thread but yes grounded isnt really the correct term bonded is more correct as its not grounded its electrically bonded, plus a ground is where the power is going not where its coming from. So really your power cable is the return.

Electrical circuits stop making sense once you start thinking in electron flow biggrin.gif

Like how a diode stops current flowing backwards... but if backwards is actually forwards.... blink.gif
BlackIce
Well if you remember high school physics, the negative electrons are attracted to the positive, so they are the ones that actually flow tongue.gif
I might be wrong, its been 10 years and a few beers since I last did high school physics.

i believe you'd be correct there, well thats what my teacher tought us in chem this year, however, chemistry wasnt a strong point for me................ laugh.gif

Positive electrons? Are you out of your mind? tongue.gif
Liquidity
Nobody even knows quite what the f***ers are, anyway. Lol.

ahaha dudes...

there are a lot of positive earthed chasis cars around

the older vehicles, especially the british vehicles, run positive earths.

my old man has a share in a car that has a postive earth (but has since been converted back to negetive when rebuilt)

try looking at old rovers for a start smile.gif they definately have it!

ahah as for the "problems" with using negetive earthed products in a positive vehicle, just reverse the wiring to what ur used to.. and switch on the -ve instead of +ve.. (and make sure the chasis of whatever isnt earthed through the -ve lead when being mounted!! )
