coffee/dinner/movie nights are "usual" because it's public, and neutral.
if you already know her a little, then pick something according to her taste.
IMO going to the movies sux, cause you're attention is totally diverted, and you can't get to know each other, but it's a good icebreaker if you're shy.
Dinner is harder because the only entertainment is each other, if there's no conversation it'll be a boring night.
coffee is good ecause it's a bit more relaxed, and you can stay for a long time, or head off to the movies if the conversation is a bit thin.
most girls won't like to do anything too adventurous with a guy they barely know.
don't be afraid to have fun and show your personality.
you could choose to have a midnight picnic in a park, so long as it's safe and reasonably public.
sugesting a lookout will spell sex, and you're likely to scare her off.
putt putt and ice skating are other options
good luck!

IMO the best first date is something fun and different and unusual, totally suprise her. I love the idea of something phsyical like putt putt and bowling and chose something that you can both kinda make fools of because if you both suck you can laugh at each other and that imo breaks the ice and allows you to get to know each other very quickly
maybe also a nice drive after before you take her home, dont have the radio on just talk

Putt putt and bowling seem to be pretty good, lots of people around and its great fun,
Tell her you'll go out get a drink, play some putt putt/ driving range, and maybe finish the day off with an evening video or movie, then to drop her home ask her if she wants to go for a cruise round the city or neighbourhood.
 and enjoy, !

Take her out for dinner....and take her bungee jumping or rock climbing, do something original that will leave her wondering and gossiping with the girls for the next week about how special and adventurous you are.
I did something similar to break the ice with my current g/f and 3 months later we're still together and its going great, but i wont reveal what i did that got her so interested, secret

i took one of my first dates ice skating (note, dont do it if u r worse then her, cause the idea is u get to catch her - makes them laff and stuff from bein unco, and u get to be the 'hero')
but yeah, skatin went down real well actually, was great fun (and i dont mean i got to cop a feel, it was just kewl)
ummm yeah, i mean as others said, if u know what they are into, then u can do that sorta stuff.
the big thing to NOT do, (which i do ALL tha time..grrr) is to be all 'i dont care...where do u wanna go' and then u both say that, sit around and waste the day....so yeah....chix get annoyed at that.

found a night when the parants were out, bought a carton of breezers. (of which u had none off), watch sleepless in seatle, and cry each other to sleep. and becoz u have no car, you couldn't drive her home so she sorta just... hung around

hehe awww man thats so cute!
first dates with babes!
your best bet is don't make it a "date" cos then u get caught up having to do things and say things or whatever.
but it depends on the girl....
i like my babes to be as lazy as me, and appreciate sitting around, laying around all day and then goin shoppin at bunnings and jaycar etc hehe
