Hi
Who has run ether of these setups for a SQ purpose
Why and what gear did you use
Any opinions on ether setup for a SQ purpose
On the weekend i tried a Alpine type X 12'' in a sealed box made to factory Specs and Inf Baffle with a Eclipse DA6213 amp took a lot of tuning to get it right but i was Amazed at the SQ it added from a Inf Baffle
setup compared to the Sealed setup.
Would like to try a sub more suited to the specs for this setup.
Yet to try a Aperiodic setup next weekend.

I have run IB in a cpl of set ups first was a single 12. a G&S redline sub

2nd set up was 3 12s IB they were PG XS 12s...both set ups were V tight. IB is a first order alignment so has excellent transient response and so great for SQ

i want to hear some feedbak about IB regarding SQ applications to. looking @ subs like image dynamics and above. maybe a diamond sub if i cant find an RE XXX.

In any infinite-baffle design, it is very important that no path exists for sound to reach from the rear of the speaker to its front. If this happens, cancellation will occur and bass output will be reduced
Any speaker can work IB, you just have to know how it will react once you put it IB.

A high Qts and larger Vas and medium Fs would behave really similar to a speaker in a sealed box.

A low Qts, lower Vas, and low Fs will be bottom monsters. They will not have any midbass punch to them (I'd doubt they would have any punch, and probably wouldn't play very well past 50-60 hertz). Power handling will be down. These would model similar to a critical dampend sealed box Q in .5 range).

infinite baffle is the same as free-air is it not?what are the actual differences between a sub designed for IB, and a sub designed for use in a box?by that i mean power ratings, magnet size, coil size, construction etc.
Liquidity
Stiffer suspension, for one, i'd imagine. I dont really know more...

Look for speakers where the Qts is greater than .6, and a Vas figure lower than the volume available, when selecting a woofer for an infinite baffle system.

if i was to get a sub designed for IB, and put it in a box sealed box designed for a "regular" sub, would it sound dodgy? at the moment I have a pioneer TS-W305F that i got real cheap off a mate. My car is a hatchback and an IB setup wouldnt really work so i made a large sealed box, and put the sub in it.it has some punch to it, but would the amount of bass be affected by the fact it is in a box?
Pulse-R
you'd get more noise out of it as a free-air install, as the "sealed" sub relies on the box to provide some stiffening.
in the free-air sub, the suspension of the cone is already stiffer, so putting it in a box would make it move less for the same drive power.
