Today i decided to get some sound deadening and make some mdf mounts for my speakers.

'98 TF Magna
JVC KDS895
Phoenix Gold QX300.4
Phoenix Gold Octane R 6.5 splits
about 1.5 sheets of 18"x36" Dynamat Extreme on door skins (I purchased a trunk kit, it came with 4 sheets, used 1.5 sheets)
16mm mdf mounts painted with sound proof black stuff that's used on the bottom of 4wd's.

Links for what i've done are:

I'm guessing I didn't apply it properly? I cleaned everything with prepsol beforehand, ensured it was all clean. Took the paper backing off, stuck it on, and rolled it as hard as i could with a piece of PVC pipe.

High passed the amp to um...60ish Hz.

I did the passenger side door, and decided to play some music. I can't really hear a difference. It sounds pretty much identical to what it was like, before it was s/d'ed. Any idea what I can still do? Perhaps better splits?

checked the phase of the splits?

put 'wave breaker' behind midbass - (like egg-carton sponge, or more expensive acoustic foam)
it will help the control of midbass frequencies and clean up the sound a lot
(next best thing to SD'ing).

Pulse-R,
You would know better than me but Im not sure about the "acoustic foam" being expensive. The diffusers I got in my Stinger Roadkill pack looked exactly the same as the bumpy style foam I saw in Clark Rubber the other day...

yeah, phases are right.

egg carton? Wouldn't that kinda dissolve and rot after a while? tongue.gif

Spongey foam stuff would work pretty well eh? Bumpy stuff they use on the inside of suitcases/guitar box/big speaker boxes etc.

see how it goes when i do driver side door.

my opinion is SD is over rated in alot of cases, i too did the SD and door sealing an the benifit was so un-noticable, i think it may just be in my head that if at all!. just my opinion

midbass would have to be out of phase

look at using a 9volt square battery to check the phase and markings of the speakers

attach the battery directly to the speaker terminals without the passive x-over in the way

if the speaker moves out with the positive terminals connected together battery positive to speaker terminal positive and negatives together. If it moves out yes the speaker is labled correctly and that terminal is offically the positive terminal.

check both midbasses to see if they are connected all correctly at the passive x-over to speakers and amp to passive x-over.

so check speakers with battery, and then visually check all wires and confirm they are correctly connected too.
