Hi Guys jsut got a quick question for you, which of these head units (apline 9855 or Bremen MP74)would be a better choice? i know they're pretty much on the same level but kind of confused to which way i should go, any ideas?

thanks heaps!

Id go the Blau. Heard the 9855 had some issues (not sure if they have been resolved yet or not).

no issues with 9855 that i'm aware of if you buy the current australian versions. top HU.

the blau is more powerful in terms of tuning ability, and a more 'complete' tool for this purpose. very hard to beat. so if you want a HU 'with the lot', strongly consider the blau.

alpine's alternative is to add their outboard processor, the PXA-H701, which really gives serious tuning ability and some other features (like dolby digital 5.1 if you have a DVD player). but for $999 plus the remote control face $499, it comes out expensive.

still, the 9855 is no slouch with tuning ability, and beyond what most people would ever utilise to full potential.

so if you want a top quality HU with 'very good' tuning ability, the 9855 could be a goer. if you want the option to expand on this by adding the PXA processor, it's also worth considering (yet a cheaper option would be a $500 alpine HU + processor). if you want a HU with 'excellent' tuning ability, consider the bremen.

note that i've never used the bremen, and only speak of its reputation. but i have used alpine for years, including 7998/9835/7990(current) and processors PXA-H600/510/900(current).

Audio Express
pricing on the blau depends on the dealer. 999 RRP. PC cable is $130 option. have seen it for ( and have sold ) $920 inc cable.

I have the 985 and have had no issues at all. UI find it very easy to use including the glide touch and it certinaly has a loit ot tunning potential. Cant speak on the other unit but can say the Alpine is terrific and have had it for around 9months now...

Thanks for all the input guys, i think i'll prob go for the bremen, i think the tuning cababilites are really impressive, but has anyone managed to hear the bremen and alpine and compared the two for sound quality? running both units flat? and a quick question for audio express doesn't the pc cable come with the unit as standard? bc don't u need the cable to do most of the tuning?

you can tune 99% of it off the face. only thing you cannot get at is the time alignment which is done from the PC. cable is an option. the tuning microphone is standard with it
Gordo!
I should be getting my Bremen just after x-mas smile.gif First have to pay for some chrissy presents, then it's go time Chris.

ambient_shadow, Chris showed me the ropes with the Bremen and I must say it's quite a unit! I've also seen his screen caps of the software which look infinitely useful.
