Ello all

I'm not based in Oz but HK so hope you dont mind me joining to chat about car audio. I have the below setup in my Pug 206 and hoping to change my front soundstage. I have no rear fill in my car and do not wish to add speakers as I consider front enough.

Currently have the below setup.

Clarion DRX9675x
Focal 165V2. Modified Xover so I can run bi amps but mids are active, tweeters passive.
IDQ12v2D2 in a 0.75ft sealed box
Genesis ST100 x 2 for front stage
Genesis Dual mono for sub

I lack some power to get the system as amp gains are nearly 90%. I will change the sub amp later to provide more power to the sub so the DM can be used for the front speakers. Amps will remain the same for now but hoping to change my front speakers to improve the SQ.

Focals have been in the car for a few weeks set on -3db for tweeters and mids active from ST100 crossed at 70hz. The mids do produce some very impressive punch but the tweeters are really bright that my ears hurt! I've done some research and I guess you either love em or hate em. I've had a few sets of speakers in the car before the Focals were in. Infinity, MB Quart, DLS now Focal but wanna change again.

As I only have front speakers I need the 6.5" to produce some decent mid bass and not sound too harsh at high volumes. Tweeters I prefer silk vs metal for the softer sound for more laid back listening. What would you recommend from the below list of 6.5" comps and why if possible?

Morel Pulse series
Dynaudio MW160GT with MD100 tweeters and older X-260.
Macrom Ext 6 (similar sound to the Morel?)
Rainbow SLC265kicks

Many thanks and please feel free to suggest other speakers.

Thanks

for soft tweets, rainbow for sure.. but from the sounds of it your tweeters are a bit harsh for a reason.. 90% gains with a HU that has 4V preouts sounds pretty overkill.. with your gains that high, you would probably start seeing clipping at around 25% of your HU's volume.

also if your xovers are modified to allow biamping, why ot try amping the tweets from the HU channels and leaving the amp for your mids? ~20W per tweet should be plenty to keep up with the mids being given 100W or so.

also position the tweets in your kicks or somewhere low if you havent already done so.. but you still wont get them good enough for your liking by the sounds of it biggrin.gif

why not just replace your tweets? people here have had very good success with Vifa XT25's, and given your setup, youve got a few options on how to power them and whatnot so you should be able to get them sounding pretty good.

if you are dead set on replacing them though, have a look into Boston SL60's.. theyre pretty well accomodated to anyones ear which is the beauty about them biggrin.gif

Hi Woob

My headunit is pre out only so I dont have the option of powering them off the HU. I could turn the gain down on the amp but the power is way too low to power the TN47. The tweeters dont sound like they are distorting just that its pretty bright at high volume. mids work wonderful but can be bright at times depending on music.

Thanks for your comments.
