Not a bad turnout, was a good day.
I liked how it was held alongside SPL, made for a much more interesting day.

Congrats to all who entered... same time next year I guess smile.gif

just returned home. had a great time, not surprisingly helped by my success. biggrin.gif

the weather was sunny and warm, which made for an enjoyable weekend. a bit of sunburn and wind/dust didn't go astray either.

as above, was good to be competing alongside the dB Drag event, making it more social and entertaining. i enjoyed catching up with many people, and meeting others (finally). also had the opportunity to audition many systems, which is always worth taking, and there were some fantastic setups - not unexpected given this was the best of the best from 3 States.

congratulations to all competitors, especially the trophy winners on both the day, and for their State season. i enjoyed tough competition in my own class, and was thrilled to take out the title by a narrow margin. ohmy.gif

personal commiserations to nemesis who had major mechanical probs, so close to reaching Wagga Wagga, and being unable to compete, cos i believe he would have been extremely competitive. i hope the car's back on the road soon!

thank you to the judges for providing their skills and stamina to lend their ears to so many cars. special thank you to marc rushton for seeing through another great [CAASQ] season. i know how much work and $$ he puts into the events, and i'm sure i speak on everyone's behalf to say 'well done'. [CAASQ] culminated in a great Finals event to cap off a rewarding year.

thank you too to Eclipse for sponsoring the [CAASQ]. their contribution and presence assured the success of the 2005 season, and provided excellent, generous prizes throughout the year.

let's see [CAASQ] continue on to 2006, bigger and better!

smile.gif
PartyJase
agree with ya stazed - in conjuction with dbdrag it worked pretty well. gave us sq competitors to do while our cars were being judged and gave them a look at the proper side of car audio tongue.gif
also saw a fair few local people who were just walking around checking out cars which is something that has been definately lacking in CAASQ in Vic.

wanna thank all the competitors for making it a great day with some amazing competition. all the classes were tight which is a good indication that there are alot of cars that are raising the sq bar and sounding great which will push everyone harder next year, hopefully to better results.

also thanking eclipse and all the retailers who have put on comps this year for us and made it possible - without them we wouldn't be able to participate at all.

on a final note would like to announce my retirement from CAASQ as i'm departing my home state of vic, so i'd like to wish everyone next year the best of luck to the competitors and the judges who will have to decide between so many great cars! cheers guys for a good one
s_tim_ulate
Had a great time as well, couldn't have asked for a closer result in AM street, and it seems it was close across the board.

Big shouts out to Nemesis - Especially after your results at the last round you must have been sounding awesome.

Good to meet some new faces, and looking forward to SQ in 2006.

Cheers

i think i'd better post something up here now or Marc will kill (fire tongue.gif) me...

what a weekend!!
the weather was great, altho i copped both the wind AND sunburn.. tongue.gif
the trek up and back was eventful, yet exciting thanx to the UHF CB jargon.. hope none of you guys got sick of Chrissy.. she sure kept me amused..

congrats to all the winners of the State Series and the Finals.. myself included.. smile.gif
To my suprise, i came runner up in Amateur Show with only a handful of points behind Cuzman.. its getting closer as the season(s) go on.. i sure have a few things planned for my between season break to get some valuable points.. i went there, with no intentions of winning anything, just to know that i sounded better than at e-gear.. but the judges thought otherwise..

thumbs up goes to Marc for putting forth this awesome event, and to the guys at DbDrag for letting us run alongside them on the day..
Marc.. you know i'm here if you ever need help with CAASQ next year.. wink.gif

altho major thanks to the sponsors who helped keep CAASQ going thru this year, and hopefully more years to come..
a little pat on the back for me (from me tongue.gif) for the photos taken on the day, they will be forwarded on to marc over the next couple of days for inclusion to the gallery. and to all those others with cameras too..

i would like to wish Adam the best of luck in getting the car back on the road.. he got as far as albury on our trek north, and thats as far as he got.. major engine troubles prevented him from continuing our trip, but he did come along to support the competition.. top effort mate, thats commitment!!

was good competing against the regulars again, and as a team we will get better as i am here to help all those who might need my assistance.. thats my 'view' on the sport if you say.. help others and promote it, as it helps in the long run.

and it was good meeting some interstate faces..
- Marty (Fhrx).. your a champ mate, was great talking to you finally.
- Mr_bob.. good work on the judging, and chatting to you was a pleasure.
- Lexarse (is that it?).. your car is real nice dude, wish i could buy it.. wink.gif
- Woody.. top effort with Judges Choice mate, and good luck next year in Pro Show.. at least you now know what needs to be done to give Shiny a run for his money.. tongue.gif loved your install, real neat!
- Stazed.. was good chatting SQ to you most of the time.. oh, and the KK's.. wink.gif

PartyJase.. will be sad to not see you competing next year in our homestate, but at least dont give up on the sport and get a new setup happenin in WA.. for another assult.. you know you want to.. smile.gif

Ok.. i think thats long enough for now..
MRS.TEK
WOW....We just got home today, we left with the others yesterday from Wagga, but myself, Marc, Rob, and Kel ended going to Yarawonga/Mulwalla for the night and headed home today.

What a great event it was, couldnt have have asked for a better time, lovely weather and great company.
It was good to meet some new faces from QLD, and some from NSW.
I had a great day also getting away a bit and shopping with the girls (Kel, Chrissy, Leah and Crystal) we had a ball.

It was such a shame that Adams car played up. Would have been good for him to enter and for us to get to know Mary-ellen (sp) a bit better.

It was a fun trip up and just as fun on the way back, we stopped at the Ettamogah (sp) pub for drinks and to stretch the legs a bit. (The TeamCAA stickers is still there on the front window after 3yrs)

Im sad to see you go Partyjase, the last couple of comps we have all gotten to know you alot better and your a top guy, just quit work and stay plzzzz LOL

Thanks to Eclipse and all the judges on a great day, and congrats to the ppl who didnt think they would win anything ie. Damo95, i know you were so wrapt. Also conratulations to Team OZ on there win in DB Drag.
And the cup is still in Victoria thanks to DEFNYA, good job.

And last of all, thanks Marc. You have done a great job this year, cant wait for 2006!!

Thanks to all you guys and girls who made an effort to come to this, looks like there WILL be a 2006 in CAASQ!!

Cheers
Dogo
sounds like it was a great event.
gotta be a pile of photos coming ... ?

Hehe - I was at Final Battle 2 weekends ago thinking about that convoy ... can't believe the sticker has lasted that long - and we thought we'd get in trouble for putting it there biggrin.gif
Fudd
the plan for next year is to start getting stickers put of for every year we go past and what for (eg: CAASQ Wagga 2006)

and have a few beers biggrin.gif
nemesis
cheers guys/gals wink.gif

yeah was a shame we couldn't get all the way there, it was a risky move trying to take it in the first place, and i guess if sh*t' can go wrong, it'll do it at the worst of times hey - but we tried, and we'll be back next year, freaking oath! B)
on a side note i'd like to thank everyone for their support over the weekend, bascially felt like crap as you's can well imagine and was just the thing to have everyone so supportive, especially MaryEllen (my missus) who sat with me in the service station for nearly 11 hours (yes, eleven hours) while my old man and his mate drove up from melb to try and put the calais on a trailer to at least tow it to the event. of course being late on a saturday morning meant no tow trucks anywhere, and no means of help in another state, so we were basically stuffed it they hadn't have come up....man i could go on for ages, but i'll keep it at that and congrats to everyone who competed and especially those who managed a trophy - i'll see you's next year! and to the retiring jase, top job chief, hope it all goes well over there wink.gif
ultim8DTM5
Congratulations to all the winners and competitors, hope to see you there next year.
PartyJase
thanks adam but i was more disappointed that the calais broke down coz was looking forward to the competition with you. would have been mighty close but i had my money on u smile.gif

hey rob we could copy JJJ and instead of "paint the drum" we could plaster CAA stickers all round the joint. oh and you have got me wondering about coming back for finals next year with a whole new car and being broke coz i spent all my money on car audio. also that eclipse amp is one of their new icepower amps. 2x250w.
Fudd
nice biggrin.gif i wanna have a look!

Is there something to hide?
MRS.TEK
Get over it.......you have all heard the reason behind it.
There is nothing at all to hide. Think what you like MiddleMan.
You didnt even attend to get your award.
Maybe its better if it doesnt go ahead, this is BS.

Very serious comments to be making there Middleman. Especially for someone who wasn't even at the event.

Hmmm, let's see two independant teams of judges, none of which saw the other judging teams result from any car, which also included two NSW judges. Yeah lots to hide.

Keep such potentially damaging comments as those to yourself and do all the competitors and organisers a favour.
Cruiser
Everyone who competed knew well in advance what they were getting into and that they wouldnt get their sheets and feedback.

Why kick up a stink now?

It was a great w'end both competing and socialy.
Congrats to ALL the competitors, it was great to meet so many mexicans and put faces to names.

One thing I did find was the Mexican's wore black during the "hot" day while the other states wore light colours. Go figure tongue.gif

Ill be there next year biggrin.gif
Marc
I'd intended on putting up my lengthy reflections thread tonight from the weekend just gone.

What was going to comment on how this was one of the best events in CAA's history, well supported by so many CAA members, and thanking all those that made it possible, such as the Judges, Eclipse, Treo, dB Drag etc .... has left me now at a point where I have a sour taste in my mouth purely at the amount of crap that has been posted by 3-4 individuals (some that were not even there) today on these forums.

There were no suprises, and everyone knew what they were getting into (as Cruiser so correctly posted), and right at this point in time, my renewed enthusiasm for CAASQ in 2006 is completely gone again.

After all the income and expenses, the $600 I am out of pocket (yes my own personal money) from putting the weekend just gone on, just became not worth it.
PartyJase
yeah we dont get to see sun very often so gotta make hte most of that warmth when we do tongue.gif

Actually no ... I won't let a small handful ruin what was a fantastic weekend, and appreciated by so many others.

So what if i wasnt there?

We received our score sheets at all the other events, why not this one?

Perhaps there was 'no time' to go over it with each competitor, but they SHOULD have been handed back. wink.gif

IT WAS AWESOME! and not just cos i won - i didn't enter 'believing i'd win', but entered knowing i was up against stiff competition. to actually win was a HUUUUGE thrill! biggrin.gif but the social side of things, the whole adventure of going there for a 'national' event, and meeting new people and catching up with old, auditioning totally awesome stereos and kicking back enjoying myself...all added up to a great time.

DON'T LOSE SIGHT OF THE BIG PICTURE - it was a memorable event that was fun and relaxed. indeed i feel there's some unwarranted sour grapes happening here which is a total pity. the best on the day won, simple as that. and there were NO LOSERS, as every system was excellent or else you would not have been invited to attend. no-one is suggesting those that didn't win were 'bad' in any way.

so THANK YOU again to all competitors, sponsors, judges and marc. it was a great finish to an enjoyable season where i hope we all learnt a lot about stereos - i know i did.

Marc i hope I'm not one of those 3-4 individuals because I quite enjoyed the event.

But I wish you hadn't locked the feedback thread so quickly, other people might have opinions on matters that haven't been raised yet.
Marc
Well its hard for someone that wasnt there to suggest the judges have something to hide isn't it? And hardly fair in any case.

Yes you did receive your score sheets at ALL other events. And ALL those events were NOT the National Finals. Everyone knew this was going to be the case. And for someone that wasn't competing at the event (and therefore doesnt even have a score sheet) I'm not going to continue this with you.

Our stance has been well documented and that is the end of the story.

I do understand that, but frankly I was getting sick of the same thing being said and said again. Forums have a great way of getting a bandwagon following, especially from people with alterior motives or those that were not even at the event, or, even affected.

If people were so passionate about there concerns, they should have raised them BEFORE the event.

There's has to be more to it than just saying 'no time' to hand out a few bits of paper.

Most by now can evaluate their own score sheet by comparing each section - thats my point.
stazed
Ah well, nothing's going to change now will it smile.gif

Maybe something to consider for next year though Marc?

P.S. ulterior not alterior tongue.gif
Marc
The point is, YES there is a whole lot more reasons why we elected NOT to give out the sheets. You know that, and the competitors knew it before the event. So .... there you have it. No more needs to be said.

You weren't there and are not affected. I feel you are not qualified to make such a big deal as you are in this case.

Agreed! As an organiser in QLD I would be very dissapointed in some of the comments made and in Marks position I too would be considering canning the comp because of the crap going on.

Lets focus on the great w'end, the results and look to a great season next year
Marc
If CAASQ does go ahead next year, then YES, a completely different approach may be taken this year. I never ruled that out.

CAASQ learns as it goes along.
nemesis
ah marc don't let it sweat you mate, its dissapointing how single minded some people can choose to be at times, and i'm sure when they re-re-reread the threads leading up to the event starting what a month ago? that any theories or whatever their issues are can be realised...plus seriously its a score sheet, at a national final, as in the-best-of-the-best, by now don't you reckon everyone should know what there weaknesses' are? give it up and look forward to trying again next year...
damnit if anyone deserves to be annoyed after this weekend its me! so everyone else can bugger off and get over it tongue.gif gez its a competition, not life or death guys, and if after all this there's still sour-grapes, i suggest looking up the words competition and competitor before continuing with their rants

This sort of attitude doesnt help

Give these guys a break, they have worked damn hard to get CAASQ where it is today.

For those who are not happy, go start your own SQ comps and have the rules that you want.

Not being smart, just my 2 cents worth.
Mr_Bob
there are a number of reasons why the scoresheets won't be viewed by competitors.

one reason is that different judges use different scales to judge:
i.e.
team 1 score a car with 160 points
whereas team 2 score it 140 points.
the competitor thinks "why did i only get 140 from tema 2, if i got 160 from both, i would have won!"
however the judges have scored every other competitor tougher too, and when the scores are averaged, the outcome remains the same.

i didn't add up any of the scores for any car that i scored during the day.
however, i'm sure that some cars were judged better by one team of judges, and worse by another.
Due to:
the opportunity for competitors to re-tune,
changing conditions throughout the day,
order in which cars were judged
slght differences in judging methods between states (although this was rectified before the judging started)

Competitors at national finals should know the good points of their cars and bad points. they've had a year to learn how to setup and tune the car.

Feedback won't be very useful, as judging criteria, rules and even categories may change for 2006.

Providing the scoresheets is encouraging competitors to complain about the slightest discrepancy, (which will be taken out of context as they won't see other competitor's discrepancies) which will only unnecessarily cause grief as we won't be entering into any correspondence.

At the end of the day, each car was judged twice, and the outcome was averaged. The end result is the combined effort of 4 judges, who have been giving you feedback all year, surely their conclusions can be trusted?
stazed
I don't think it's a matter of trust.

Because although we can tout the "all year argument", I was up against cars I will never be up again for at least another year. And I'd like to know what they're doing in VIC better than in NSW, because I'm not going to have another chance to find out.
brady123
It may not be my place to comment as I have nothing to do with CAASQ, although I hope to someday. However I am of the opinion that instead of complaining about minor issues (that I think would only lead to complaints heading the judges' way about the "supposed" inconsistency of judging formats), you should feel thankful that you are in the position to enter the competition at all. Just thought Id add my view.

Middle Man, I'm missing your point.

As a head judge in QLD we don't hand out score sheets on the day (our venue has no photo copier) & none of the competitors have ever made such a stupid claim.

Marty was there as a judge, do you think he has something to cover-up? I doubt it...with comments like that no wonder NSW is having a hard time running events if competitors behave like this.

Big deal...get over it...these events are held for the competitors, hell even the judges in QLD don't get paid to judge, they do it because of their passion for car audio.

If all the competitors behaved like you have, I'd loose interest in CAASQ events real quick.

BTW I missed this event too, sorry, will try harder next time sad.gif
mooseBoY
Well on a lighter note from all this...

I really enjoyed walking around and talking to the competitors and looking at there cars and installs, it's interesting to see how different people from diff regions take on the car sound scene and how it effects there tastes etc.....

In relation to the harsh comments in this thread WHO CARES- every comp is different and will always reflect in the scores of each individual vehicle- Regardless of the format.....

Well done Marc and all the judges etc involved in the event.....

Although i did receive an invite, i would loved to have been able to take the Hilux and have a crack at the finals, but i'll be doing something next year thats for sure....... WELL DONE everyone and i think those marques would be good for next year Marc!
Cuz
Well, just read through all of this, all I can say is I hope some people's comments don't jeapordise my (and others) plans to have an even more enjoyable season next year......

Anyway, what a fantastic weekend! I had an awesome cruise up and back, great fun drinking Friday and Saturday night and of course ONE HELL OF A COMPETITION!

I am over the moon with my result, it really is gratifying knowing something you have put so much time and effort into is recognised (and even enjoyed) by others.

I'd just like to personally that Marc and the admin, your efforts are greatly appreciated and recognised by all (minus a few randoms).

To all the competitors - thanks for the great weekend and friendly competition all year, it really is awesome to be able to compete with like minded people who are always willing to help and are HAPPY to see any improvements/advancments is systems.

To the sponsors - thanks for the great support all season! It's awesome seeing car audio brands putting support back into the competitions that inevitbly support them! Plus im am absolultey wrapped with my Eclipse amp and Treo sub!

And of course the judges, with their "golden ears" and uncanny tolerance to long sits non air condtioned cars - thanks for consistant and friendly judging all year long smile.gif
