Hey,
I just picked up my new Dynaudio System 340 from my local audio shop and am just a bit confused about the woofer that has come with this System. Correct me if I am wrong but this system is meant to come with the MW160 woofer, the thing that’s got me is that the System that I have received has the MW160GT woofer.
I have talked to the audio shop that I bought them from as I was unsure why this was, they advised me that they have already spoken to the Dynaudio supplier who advised that this is normal. The thing that I was worried about was the fact that the MW160GT only has 4 mounting holes and the specked grills have 6 mounting holes and only 2 of the 4 mounting holes on the woofer match up with the 6 on the grill. The audio shop said that they also quire Dynaudio about this and was told just to drill out the extra holes, the shop has offered to do this for me and they will replace them if there is any problem with doing this (sure as putting a drill through the cone).
The thing that is concerning me the most is that I don’t know if the MW160 is better then the MW160GT. If the MW160GT is the better then the MW160 I will be happy to have them drill out the correct holes and leave it as that. I’m just worried that I’m not getting what I have paid for.

If anyone understands this and is able to give me some advised this would be much appreciate.

the difference between the 2 drivers is minimal. the GT is designed to work better in car applications than the regular MW160, with stiffer suspension more in tune with using the door cavity as its enclosure, amongst other changes.

i have tried both, and you would have to live with both and do countless comparisons to notice the difference. both are simply excellent.

the holes are an issue, long recognised. no idea if/when they'll rectify the situation and provide suitable grills or drill a different pattern in the GT's. i don't use the grills, so it doesn't bother me. but even if you do drill them, then there still remains a cosmetic issue with unused holes showing.

i figure you either live with it, not use the grills, or see if your retailer can convince the distributor to change the drivers over for regular ones. but it really boils down to cosmetics, nothing else. and if anything, the GT drivers suit the application better.

Thanks Shiny for you reply.
Sorry the post was not too clear, the GT's have 4 screw holes in it and the grill I have has 6 holes in it so the retailer will only be drilling extra holes in the GT which will all be covered by the grill so there will not be any cosmetic disadvantages.
Thanks again for your advise as it is exactly what I wanted to hear smile.gif

The 340 comes in both GT and MK2 configurations. We can swap from GT to MK2 if desired. The main difference as mentioned by Richard is the GT has a somewhat stiffer spider and lower clearance and is as a result a better choice for most cars. Sound wise there is only a tiny difference and to be honest I don't know which I prefer, they both sound great.

Thanks very much for this info, sounds as if it will be better just to keep the GT.
