G'Day,

So here I was all ready to purchase a Bremen and love it to the end of my days. Well then I decided to sit down and work out what all my crossover settings and TA might be. That's when I realised that the Bremen isn't actually going to work for me. So I'll give you a rundown:

Tweeters: Gain adjustment for 'TA'. Needs a clean (or highpassed, no TA) RCA.
Midrange: TA of left and right. Needs a time aligned, band passed RCA
Midbass: TA of left and right. Needs a time aligned, band passed RCA
Subs: TA of left and right. Needs a time aligned, low passed (with subsonic if so required) RCA

So I need 3 TA'd signals and one clean... The Bremen only has 4 channels of TA as far as I can tell. Now something like an Alpine 9855 has 6 channels of TA, but then where do I get the unaligned signal for the tweeters? The amps all have adjustable crossovers on them enough to be able to do 3 way active with ease (it states different freq. ranges for high/low pass so I assume that means bandpassing is possible) so the crossovers are not really a problem. It really comes down to the TA.

So are there any options for me in a single headunit, or am I going to have to bite the bullet and get a processor blink.gif

Cheers

short of buying a processor or clarion HX-D2 (8 channel output), determine which 2 speakers will be positioned closest together. then these 2 can be run off a single set of preouts and time aligned in unison, and rely on the amps for some of their xovers.

that's what i do with my midrange and tweeters, which are both positioned close together in the kickpanel area. there was no point TAing them separately as they are near-enough to equidistant from my ears (~3cm difference). so my midrange and tweeters run off 1 preout, split into 4 channels (the amp has 2-channel input and splits it internally 4 channels).

such a setup could save you a lot of headache. tongue.gif

I had to learn this the hard way!!!

Hmmm looks like I'll be biting the bullet and buying an 8455 then. Should be had for the same (or maybe even less) price then the Bremen.

I see what you mean by 'grouping' two sets of speakers, and at first I was thinking no, no, no you can't do that. After more thought I remembered that TA doesn't affect tweeters to much degree, so I will still do the gain adjustment dance. So all is good smile.gif

Thanks guys! Looks like I'll be off to Northfield on Saturday biggrin.gif

Got my CD8455 today. Very excited.

Just wondering what the 'box' that is connected to it is? It says it's a connector, but of what sort?

box? probably the DC-DC power converter. it's external for reasons of space, ventilation and avoiding interference.

post a pic.

top choice btw.

yeah, i figure that's the DC-DC converter (converts +12V to whatever the HU runs off, say 5V, and keeps it nice and steady/regulated).
