I'm currently rebuilding my whole system and am putting a run of 0ga through to the boot.
All is well with my negative battery terminal, it has those 'lock nut?' style connectors on it and has 0ga, 4ga and 2 x 8ga, which is all I need.
The positive has the same hole sizes, which is a problem.
I really need a 0ga, 2 x 4ga and 1 or 2 8ga.
Now, if there's nothing suitable and cheapish off the shelf (haven't found anything so far), I was thinking i'd put ring terminals on all the cables and mount them on a metal bar, mounted to one of those ring style battery terminals.
Does this sound like the way to go?
If so, what would I make this bar/strip out of?
LOL!, hope this makes sense

I know what u mean, you want to make a busbar.
it'll work fine, alot of us do it.
Use copper for the busbar.

not sure if it could be done, and if it would work, but why not get a cheapy terminal with a 4awg hole, and drill it out to 0awg?

Of course it can be done and of course it works. HEAPS of people do it all the time.
Pic below is of the old busbar setup in the barina

Ah, a busbar, so that's what they're called.
So there's nothing 'off the shelf around'?
Probably another silly question, where did you buy the copper, just the local hardware store?
I can't remember ever seeing copper strips, although, I don't suppose I was really looking, LOL!

I got my copper from a mate who got it from a mate, but you should be able ot pick it up from a metal supplier.
There is no off the shelf items AFAIK, most people make them to suit their installs needs.

Kewl, i'll make one up tomorrow.
Thanks for your help.

just be careful with any 'live' busbars that are exposed to short circuits. ideally all +ve terminals/connections should be covered to prevent accidental shorts (eg: when you drop the spanner onto it!).

alternatively, as i do, run some 0awg to a distro block mounted near the battery, and run the wires from there. obviously choose a suitable DB with the holes you need.

Done.

I used an old hinge I found in the shed, hence the staggered hole pattern, LOL!
It's all solid and works beautifully.
About the cover for it, yeah I did think about that Shiny and i'm going to whip something up at some stage.
For now i've just cable tied a piece of plastic around it.

that's ghetto!

did you use locknuts or similar? you don't want them vibrating loose - they will!
good work. try and get brass or copper to replace it too, as steel isn't quite as good.

quick fix i loike and id say it would be brass another idea as u are mixing metals )lead on termonal, brass on hinge, stanless bolts, and copper wire is to use alliminox or similar as the metal will corrode and eat each other as well it will cause voltage drop and acess heat )
edit i cna get u come copper bus bar if u want (up to about 6 inches wide and 1/2" thick, but 1 or 2" max width will do just pm)

Yeah it's a brass bar, I forgot to mention that, although it should be obvious that a hinge wouldn't be made out of copper!
I was looking for copper, couldn't find any and then seen that.
Polished it up a bit and run a multimeter over it (didn't know about the condictivity of brass), very little resistance.
Yep, used locknuts on the bolts, but they're just temporary, i'll get bigger brass ones later on.
Oh yeah, why ghetto?

now he has 21 ring terminals there.....thats $525 just on terminals!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hehe, funny thing is is it looks like its being jumpstarted :P

I thought you SPL guys didn't use fuses at all because of their resistence ?

I wouldnt recommend NOT using fuses in a daily set up (hence the fuses in the barina)
But for a non daily SPL car, go without the fuses, a> because of the resistance and b> Imagine fusing 6+ runs of 0g, because have you seen the price on ANL fuse holders and 300a fuses?

this will make me cry when the time comes

:'(
4 runs will need 150a fuses each
this the setup out of pigphamas out wagon. for daily use he had fuses in and for comps used brass strips.

oh yea that sounds like a good idea, might try that, easy way to swap between fuse and no fuse
