Is it just me or is the fun of sitting down on a saturday and watching bathurst just not fun anymore?
i find they have to many stupid rules which take the competetivness out of the sport. them silly passing rules and so forth.

If they had circle track speedway on TV as much as they do V8 supercars id be a happy boy but they dont so im gunna have a cry about bathurst sucking!

I personally look forward to Bathurst every year. The only thing that I look foward to more is Targa Tasmania! I love the formula, and I don't think that its boring. With there being more cars on the track every year I think that saftey is paramount. It's a bit unfair if a driver has built up a massive lead and then it's pulled back because of a safety car etc., that slows down the race! I would sit down for the whole weekend, watch the qualifying, the top 10 shootout (if channel 10 show it here in tassie before midnight ) and all the support races, then back up on Sunday. A good idea is to get a few mates round, have a BBQ and a few beers, you'll enjoy it! Its hell better than the supertourers they had a few years ago, but bring back Murray Walker i say!

Cheers...Mitch

The 24 hour Bathurst race is looking interesting this year, more so than the V8 race for me. Dunno, i used to be able to watch pretty much the entire race but just doesnt interest me as much these days

Bring back the GTR baby!!!!

Or are Holden & Ford too scared from the whoopin they got in 92???

That'd shake things up a bit.

I agree with the 1st post.

2 practically the same cars (this is just my general opinion..so dont flame) going around 167 (I think) times is pretty boring.

They should let other cars in have some real competition. I reckon they're scared too.

If anything I watch the production class race, much more interesting
BlackIce
Its called V8 Supercar Racing.. not Some V8 Supercars and some Turbo's racing.
If Nissan, Mitzoo or Toyota bothered releasing a RWD/AWD V8 they'd be in there too. But they haven't and prolly wont. Write to the manufacturers and tell them to get in there and do it.. its not like Nissan & Toyota don't have V8 engines & RWD chassis (Lexus & Infinity spring to mind..).

I disagree with most of the comments there except for BlackIce. The GTR was never meant to compete against V8 Supercars. Personally I think it criminal that they would let the thing on the track. It's a V8 Race not a JGTC. Sure the Godzilla was the faster car and it slaughtered them. But at the end of the day your comparing apples with oranges.

Hell yeah. Made the trek up last year for the 1000 and 24 Hr, and definitely enjoyed the 24 hour more. 1000 is a bit over commercialised and busy at the race track. 24 Hour we owned the skyline. If you go, make sure you take the couch!

Going back again this year with a bigger krew and we'll be on top of skyline yet again.

Anyone else planning the trip?

But its Bathurst...how can any car loving, aussie bloke not like it?
I know where most of the posts about it being pretty flat and stale, im a holden fan (duh) and so look forward to watching the fords getting a spanking each year. finally, after nearly 6 years being slaughtered (talking the whole championship) the blue oval is alive and kicking buut, ABOUT FREAKING TIME. so this year, moreso than the last few, should be more interesting than ever i reckon
i'll be at home watching it, or with mates somewhere watching it but either way it'll have my full attention. and yes, formula 1 is a religion for me and if i miss a race im sh*tty for a week and no i dont think its repedative and boring. i do find that since ferrari have lost the top of the grid and bought competition to the ranks there, its alot like the holdens falling into ford's grasp, so again this year rocks for motorsport (and channel 10 are doing an awesome job with it )

Bathurst has sucked since the day it became a 2 model taxi race

they're a joke as a racing "formula" and the days when it was a production race it was much more entertaining.. 2 be honest i havent taken an interest in v8 supercars for years.. so dont know or care what goes on anymore.. booring
vanboy
definately a bbq event. i do kind of miss **** johnsons stupid whinging a$$ getting a good whooping tho. if you looked-up "flog" in the dictionary, there'd be a picture of him. otherwise, after 6 hours of racing, a squillion bundy and cola's, we don't care who wins. pity the brand of car that wins can only start with "f" or "h".
would love to see the nissan 4.5 and toyota's v8 too..........

I look forward to the race even though I don't watch the whole event. I'll leave the TV on and watch bit's and pieces. I think it would be great to see more manufacturers than Holden and Ford but it's an Australian race and that's the two local manufacturers who currently have V8 sedans. I'd love to see GT-R's and whatever else racing here but it wasn't fair for them to race as they aren't the same sort of car. I'd love to see Mitsu with their V8 mix it up with a Toyota too.

Lately though I've been enjoying the GTP racing. It's entertaining and you see different styles of racing at the same time.

LOL the second Mitsu even LOOKED at joining in Ford and Holden were up an arms about it! My butt they'll let them in! Holden even threatened to pull out their financial backing if Mitsu was let in!

Also I wasnt referring to the V8 series..I was just talking about Bathurst itself..it's not always been just V8's.

No, there's also the other classes which make for good viewing.

i agree that this years bathurst is gunaa be more interesting than previous yeaars BUT its still not as fun to watch as the good 'ol days. im not saying bring back the turbo's.. no way. BUT i think thatr all the rules they now have are a bit beyond..
Go the A9X!!!!

DrEvil
I started watching Bathurst in about 91 or 92 (whichever the one was where Perkins won) and have seen the excitement going downhill since.

Let's just hope for a nice big dose of rain to wet down the track and make it exciting... as long as there are no injuries, crashes are awesome

Can someone give a brief history on the split? Didn't several classes race at once?
FLiPSiDE
theres an ugly.. but fairly imformative website about bathurst and the history of the race here..

R35 GTR: Will be 5-6L V8 for export markets...

But AFAIK Toyota already approached them and asked if they built the car would they be allowed to race, and were denied.

V8's are a 2 (very similar...) horse race, I prefer most of the other races, at least Porche Cup doesnt pretend to be an open event

Well I'm tired of the Ford vs Holdern cr@p. THAT gets boring.

Excellent.

Bloody oath. I much prefer the GTP races aswell.

I reckon its only a matter of time before we go down the NASCAR road with identical cars shapes...

Lets look at a break-down a Holden V8 Supercar.
- Chev motor
- Ford Suspension (thanks project blueprint)
- Ford Diff
- Hollinger gearbox

Hmm.. well at least the panels are holden - yay!

I think Bathurst should be open to all V8 supercars plus Konica cup cars - rather than limit grid places use the 110% qualifing rule - simple! More cars spices it up! Any good driver can drive around them - any bad driver just sits and b!tches how they shouldnt be allowed to race...

But you can bet your boots I will watch it from start to finish!
Trough Lolly
yer i agree its still good occasion to have a beer with the boys.

might rip out the 'ol "kero TV' and sit on the river fishing!! hehe
