Hey all, i was wondering what frequency i should build a passive 2nd order 12db/oct crossover at for my splits?

I currently have it @ 2600hz 6db/oct

What is the lowest you can safely run the vifa's at?

Pwr 950Wmax
140Wrms
Coil 25mmØ
Mag 240g 75mmØ
Zo 4 (3.0dc)
Fs 500Hz
Sens’ 91.5dB
Qms 2.50
Qes 0.71
Qts 0.55

See http://www.wagner.net.au/speakers/46-Vifa.pdf for graphs of frequency response...

http://www.avisound.com/specs/el130_specs.htm for avi specs...

any help is greatly appreciated

The XT25's are very versatile, but have a hard time rolling off down the lower end, and play a lot like a midrange.
Many home audio enthusiasts recommend 12db/oct at around 3khz, or 24db/oct around 2khz, but wouldnt go lower.
Rob here, is running his around crossed 1.8khz (not sure on slope) if i remember correctly.

The AVI driver looks like it'll play up high comfortable, so i'd choose somewhere between 2.5-3.5khz or so, with 12db/oct or steeper slopes.

The narrower the freq. range a driver has to produce, the clearer the reproduction. According to specs if the AVI play up to 8Khz & the XT down to 1.5Khz pick a midpoint and see how it sounds. I think crossing @ 2.5Khz /24db is definately "safe".

Also, if u cant tell im aiming for an SQ setup overall, however im on a tight as budget...

Are the jaycar new line of amps that much of a let down? the 4 x100 would be perfect for what i need at the mo, 2ch for frontstage and 2 bridged for subbie.

Otherwise its somethin like an audison srx2 (65 watts) and a cheap as, weak amp for the sub....

I mean REALLY guys, are the amps that bigger let down?

also dont be fooled by the deck model, it has 24bit dac and 6x4v output so the deck is alright.

There's a thread on here about the poor behavior of the monoblok, but no major probs with the stereo amps. Just low damping & lower quality components compared to mid level & high end gear. Still good Bang for Buck amps tho, just not if your "really" into SQ. wink.gif

lets put it this way....

If i get an audison srx2 amp, its just less then $300 for 2 channels... What do i do about a sub?

Does any one (preferably sydney) have any amps lying around they want to flog me?

after playing around with the scanspeak dome revelator dome tweeters they seem to really shine with a 12db/oct @ 3.5khz

maybe try that as well see if it works

all the other suggestions seem to be spot on too, lots of choices now its time to play

btw to make it easier use a headunit with full active x-over (like alpine bass engine pro). This will give you quick easy choices to select from at the hit of a switch. I wouldnt even bother with passive just too much hard work and time consuming. Just get a 4 channel amp for the front stage and go fully active. You can then change x-over points till you are happy.

heres what id try

4.5k-5khz @6 db/oct
3k-3.5khz @ 12db/oct (this is first setup choice)
2.5k-3.5khz @ 18db/oct
2k-2.5khz @ 24db/oct (try this second)
