I have been offered to buy an item outside of an ebay auction for much less than what the current bids are at (because there are several items and he said i could get it for a set cheaper price).
What I want to know is how can I be sure he won't dodge me? How can I be sure I don't get ripped off if it just organised over email etc
Whats the safest way to pay?
I think he only wants DD, money order or credit card...

Depends on circumstances I guess. I would only suggest doing it if the person's rating was 500 and above. Although I can understand someone wanting to sell outside eBay. The listing and selling charges definately add up.
Safest way is to use Escrow (
www.escrow.com)
If they're in Australia, do the Australia Post COD thing.

500!!! Common...get real. A guy will be true to his word at anything greater then 10-15 I recon. Just check that the feedback is 100% though if it is that low.
Good luck!

there was a scam a while back on some guy taking auctions outside of ebay and rooting the winners.
selling digital cameras and tv's or some crap
my advice, dont do it.
or meet up with said person, that way you're less likely to get screwed

Is it a lot of money? If not, then do it.
I did it, with $1000. But I like to take risks.

I did it, but it took me nearly two months to get my digital camera, but I saved a fair bit so i was happy. It took seven weeks to get a digital camera from Melbourne to Hobart, but the package got lost so there wasn't a lot I could do about it really. I put all the money into their bank account via DD before I received the goods, in future i'd use ESCROW as I've had an uncle that used it and it worked well for him. My seller only had 4 bits of feedback! But I took the risk, the camera is fine, and its a special edition camera from Singapore which very few in Australia would have, so I'm stoked! Do It!
Cheers...Mitch

I wouldn't do it.... buy NOTHING outside ebay, unless you know them, or know someone who does, or they have a very good rating.... if you send that money order to VIC, you risk never seeing that money again, or the goods....... Take the risk if you want, but you have no cover by ebay

Yeah! Spook the guy! Ask for his address, say your cousin will come over and give him the money for it!

hehe i emailed the QLD ebayer seller saying that i would get my friend in VIC to pay his cousin in VIC in cash as an alternative, so waiting for a response....
to bring you up to speed; well i have to pay the cousin in VIC, but the item will be getting sent from QLD. the QLD ebayer is a n00b and has no feedback whatsoever.
i have the guys cousins address in VIC (like ringwood or seomthing) to whom i would be adressing and sending money order to.
sounds really dodgy, and the deal might be too good to be true. haha im pretty worried, but if anyone in QLD or VIC could help me, id be glad to pay you a bit for your trouble.
