Ok, its time to replace the Soundstream Edge 12 (250rms). Its done us well to learn a little with, but now we want something with a little more 'oomph'...
We are not going extreme and don't expect the world from what we are using, but we would like to get over the 140dB mark with the next purchase......
The sub will be running off a Response Mono (800rms), so we are looking for something to make the most of what that can give.
So far my options are -
Treo TSX12 - rated at 400RMS - $467 on special or $549 RRP
Hertz HXS 300D - rated at 900RMS - $392 on special or $461 RRP
Sound Stream Trantula 12" - rated at 900RMS - $649 RRP (i think)
DD 2012 - rated at 600RMS - $269
DD 2512 - rated at 1000RMS - $386
Any got some unbiased proven info and reasons as to what to choose?
Oh, and its going in a small hatch....

i would say the Treo's they love power and will take the 800wrms all day i would say.
forget the hertz and soundstream
DD - give it half hour and the fan boys will be on to say how great the woofers are.. they go loud but from all that i have heard they sound pretty average.

nearly any 12" (in the right box) will get you your 140db with 800wrms.
I saw a bloke with 1kw and 2 x $90 pioneer 10's do 143 on lab
do u just want spl, or do u want it to sound half decent too..?

If you're looking at our products. I'd go the 1012 over the 2012 for high output applications.
The 1012 has a longer coil and stiffer suspension, it's optimised for high power handling and output from compact vented boxes. It's also cheaper than the 2012.

However the 1012 and 2012 are single 4 ohm only. The 2512 is dual 4 ohm.

that soundstream sub would be pretty nice id say, if your willing to spend up too $649 for a sub maybe check out Pioneer 121SPL big sub, with the right box and running at 2ohm (700rms) it should be able to get you close too the 140db mark

lol - so we all recommend different subs, juuuust to make it easy

if i can get the TREO for $350, should I just get that?
it will be used as a daily, but more importantly amateur SPL.....
I've been recommended the Hertz by someone i find to be reasonably well known in the industry, which is why I am considering it.....
But I have been told Treo is the sh!t atm.... but limited exposure in Australia?
edit - oh, and the sound stream is probably out of the budget, but i'm not sure anything in the sound stream range would suit spl within the $300/$400 bracket?

Get either the Treo or the Hertz, mainly because they come in Dual 2 ohm and will suit the amp better.

Treo has always been good.
Treo has always been expensive.
This is why Treo is out of favour.. you can get the same performance from Atomic or DD or whoever for less, so you dont hear a lot about Treo.
If I was building a new system to mess around in SPL, I'd snag a pair of E-Audio's & Kicker L710's.

i have got 2 x 10inch farenheits ($200 each RRP) i have been burping them at shows for 12months and cranking them everyday on music. Subs are still going strong. My PB with them is 143.8db. So in theory 1 of them would still be doing over 140. So I assume 1 x 12 is very capable of 140's. IF you can find any of them they retail for about $240.
It depends what you want. If you want bang for buck these subs are great.
If you want something that has potential for Records, you gotta spend a bit more.

That is not true, the prices start from $329, well know brands of equal qualities and specifications are also on par, as the models go up in the range so does the price, this is also the case with the competitors. TREO's case is that their woofer range goes to the extreme and if you want the best in the SPL range there is a price to pay.
