i just got finished talking with mates and they gave me a list of subwoofers that are spl woofers
cadence
crossfire
memphis
digital design
audiobarn
mtx
treo
jl audio
jbl
rockford
they also told me to work out what class i want to run
i am not sure yet that would be related to how much money i have - is this correct???
i am going to see a mazda 323 on tuesday it should be ok, the money i save on that i will put towards the other money of the db stuff
the guy wants $3000 for the car so i should have about 15 to 17 grand to spend for the stereo and installation

Is there an actual question here? I don't get it.

with about 15 - 17K i think you should still stick to street classes,
i think you would suit street C very well, you have enough cash to get 3 high end 15" subs and i would say about 4 amps, plus you would need a new battery/alternator i think and then the wireing you would need about 6 runs of very very thick cable.
that would equal to something like $2000 per sub (2k x 3), about $2000 per amp (2k x 4), and about $1000 - $2000 (for battery wireing fuses etc etc...) but again this is VERY loose estimations (adds up to be about 16k) as you still need to work out what brands and size of power we are talking

What model 323?
Get a station wagon if possible.
If you can't get a wagon, at least get a 5 door, as the front doors are shorter than that of a 3-door, making the cabin smaller, and importantly distance from woofer to mike shorter, raising the note.
The higher the note, the more power you can put into the woofers, and the less excursion required.
For that budget, I'd hit Street Max 3-4, spend like so:
Termlab - $1000-1500 - or arrange a lot of use of one
4 15-18" woofers $5000-9000
4 Huge amps $8000-10000
2 massive batteries $1000
40m 70sqmm cable $500
6 sheets 32mm MDF $400
Done and Done! go have fun!
Street Max limits the batteries, which keeps the weight down. This car oculd remain registered and driveable, which means you can do more shows. Once you go the tow-truck route, it gets very expensive to attend many shows, especially far from home.

yay it looks like i got my estimates pretty close hehe i am getting better at this

also dont forget your gonna need a headunit, i reccomend an alpine CDA-9851 or a 9815
DD Phil
Feb 12 2006, 09:17 AM
I know that some Alpines don't like the dB Jams disc, I think this has been rectified now, but just make sure before purchase.
All you really need on a head unit is PAUSE.

That is some of the best advice ANYONE can give someone looking to get serious about SPL.
Termlabs are an invaluable piece of equipment.

i am selling australia's loudest car and all the gear that was used in it. if you want gear that you know will work, send me a pm and we'll work out what you need...
i would go SS3-4 with that budget. even if you don't get the maximum 16 amps you're allowed, you'll still be louder then street max. it requires power to make power, batteries are important...

i was being told that the memphis subs are better than the dd subs is this true
Michae1
Feb 14 2006, 08:42 AM
Realistiscally there is no BEST sub.
Every application has woofers that are more suited to it.
Every competitor that has gotten stupidly loud in the past, could do it with whatever brand they use, because they work their a$$es off to get results.

he said he ca get the stock straigh away and sugested 2 too 4 15 inche subs he also told me i should look at the big cadence amps or kickers
whats every ones opinuon on this or should i stick with dd subs
let me know i want to buy this stuff soon
and what about wires are airpro good they seem cheep alot of my mates have stinger

DD. Aerpro is fine.
DD Phil
Feb 17 2006, 09:59 AM
Aeropro stuff will do the job fine, it may not be as adaptable or pretty as Stinger or Street Wires, but look at the price!
I like AXIS gear too, it's cheap and good. www.audioxtra.com.au
For power cable you can't beat welding cable, I pay under $10/m for 50sqmm.

Cadence????? the cadence van is NOT an SPL vehicle. it's a showroom on wheels. alot of the JB staff recomend that brand. (let me guess was it JB Dandenong or Eastland?) come to the DB event this week at traralgon and see what others are doing. this will be a good sart to have a feel of DB drag racing. also you have to work out which class you want to enter to see which size woofers you can use and the quantity you can have.
GOOD LUCK
xplod_au
Feb 17 2006, 12:19 PM
why would ya go for a big blown out budget like that for specially when ya havent run in SPL before, by the sounds of it.
tis just nuts in my opinion. but then again if your not building or installing it yourself then ya will spend heaps on that.
and if that is the case i say learn more about SPL and do the installs yaself. its more rewarding.
but good luck with it all just remember to, if you go spending that much money on ur system how will ya feel when guys out there have spent not even half that amount and and pull much bigger numbers then you.
thats why i say learn more about it before juming in at the big end with us all.
thats just my opinion dont hate me for it

u dont know how to drive but your spending 17k on a spl system ?
by the sounds of it, perhaps you should spend more on a better car and 3 or 4k on a SQ system. SQ Systems go quite hard too if you get some good components. and put the rest of your cash towards car repairs when u crash it.
5kw's of BASS please

5 x pioneer premier 5000wMAX 15"woofers

Done deal!
Remove all speakers exept front splits...

Mate few things.
1. get a manual licence. So many ppl get auto then never bother again about manual till they get a job that requires one. Do it right first.
2. Go to a car stereo event and see how sq and spl are run. See what the guys are doing before you go spending big dollars on a sound system.
3. Stop listening to mates as some ppl like putting money into motors and looks others spend money on phat bass. only reason i say this is i own a wrx sti and i get so much crap i spent money on the stereo rather than the motor.
4. Find a car that u want. Got a fair bit of money. Nothing wrong with buying a system worth 5k with upgrading in future in mind. Cars are costly to run and keep running. So keep money aside for that aswell.
5. Try using specialist car audio stores. They know wat they are talking about most of the time so ull get fairly good advice. Beware of store bias. Remember salesman will try sell what gear they have. I dunno which stores are good in vic but hopefully some1 from vic will help ya there. Better to talk to a salesman who loves car stereos then to a salesman who wants to make money.
Just my 2 cents but i felt it was worth mentioning it.

sq is no easier to win than spl... it takes just as much time tuning if not more, let alone getting all your gear work together and correctly placing ur speakers etc... one way or another, u need to research... all sorts of stuff from the staging to the imaging to the tonal accuracy, even 4000 dollar speakers off a great amp can sound crap with a bad tune... stop looking for the easy way out, if u want to be great wether it be at spl or sq, do a google search and learn, becaude sq is definitely not the easy way out...

i could not put that in a better way. that advise from my experience is worth more than 2 cents. it could save you $$$ in the long run. Siksys if you really want to run in the lanes you meet alot of regular faces and learn heaps on the way. that's how i did it
NOTE: if this guys is willing to give DB Drag Racing a go let's encourage him and help him instead of taking the piss out of him in the forums. the more people that enter the better for all!!!!!!!
Now that's my 2 cents worth

do u even realise how ridiculous people think u are, he is pointing out the obvious fact that u cant get to the comp because nobody could pick u up, maybe u should be able to drive yourself before u even think about your car stereo.
Secondly do you even realise how much u contradict yourself, all of a sudden you have a GTS as all seventeen year olds do of course and your also looking at a 323 :S wtf???
And thirdly I dont know why anybody bothers to reply to any of your bullcrap when you are so quick to jump out an abuse people, 99% of the people on this forum know a f***load more than u obviously do and anytime somebody says something u dont like your conan the keyboard warrior.
