Hi, I have been reading about the benefits of sound deadening, but in my car, the speakers are not in the doors, they are in the kick panels, should i sound deaden the kick panels instead? Or are the benefits of sound deadening unrelated to speaker location?

Also, what type of improvement will sound deadening provide to the sound? The car is a beemer 7 series, so i think it is already pretty quite, do you think in particular on this car, sound deadening will not lead to a noticable improvement in sound?

Thanks for your help, just trying to decide if it is worth embarking on a massive sound deadening mission.

Generally, you'd sound deaden where the speaker area is... either the door, or behind the kick panel or whatever. If you wish to deaden the whole car (floor pan, roof, all doors, boot, kicks) then by all means.. It'll add a hell of alot of weight to the car, but no doubt, you won't hear a thing outside the car! Sound deadening automatically improves midbass and subbass, as it tends to provide a depth to the sound, if that makes sense. I'm waiting for someone to correct me if I'm wrong, but I'm pretty positive on what I've stated so far biggrin.gif hehe. Overall, if you have the cash to splurge on deadening the whole car (providing you have a full stereo system to install) then it'll be worth the investment IMHO. Hope this helps.

Well when Fhrx did a full deadening of the floor plan on a brand new Lexus (which is already known to be very quiet), they lowered the noise floor from road noise by 4db.

So there is really no loss with deadening, if you have the money then go for it.

But I wouldn't recommend getting too many layers of deadening in your front doors if their isn't any music transfer through them.
