I have done a fair bit of searching and havent found my answer, but if you know of one, please point me to it.
I am going to build my own sealed enclosure. It is going to sit in behind the back seats.
What i want to know is how to join the wood on the angled joins. ie, do i just cut the angle into one piece of MDF? if so, what is the best way to do this accurately.
If someone can at least tell me the name of the joint that i want to use i can search for that. As it is most box building articles gloss over it.
Thanks.

You can have a choice...
IF your really fussy, you can do a mitre cut to create a finished corner to suit the anlge of the back seat (which means a little more fiddly cutting... OR you can cut one to suit the angle (which you still have to do A mitre cut and not two cuts)
Makes sense?

thanks, that does make sense. It is what i was thinking i would do.
but how do i put that angle in. Is it best to use a plane, or and electric sander or what?

it would be easiest to use a mitre saw, which is an electric work bench saw where you can change the angle of the blade. maybe when you buy the wood they might be able to do the angles for ya..? or i think you can buy a jig thing that holds a hand saw and allows you to cut on an angle.
what sort of wood are you using?? if its mdf, i dont think you'd be able to plane it...? sanding it would take a fair while, and it would be hard to get the angle accurate. good luck

Get George to do it for ya

hahaha
Anybody with a bench saw can do it.. or wherever you buy your wood from may charge you a little for the mitre cuts... specifiy what angles you want and they'll do it....
As far as I know, that is...

Slightly on the topic I guess, what's the easiest way of cutting 65 degree angles.... And then what's the cheapest way?

I have very limited tools (circ saw, jig saw...) and last time i cut with circ saw to 45 degrees, then planed the rest (very painful)...
Sadly I have to do it again as that box was stolen... So wondering any easy ways of doing it. Or anyone know any places that'll cut it and wont cost an arm and a leg (and are ACCURATE!)?
Cheers.

you could try going down to a cabinet or kitchen maker and asking them. offer to pay, but im sure they'd do it for free anyway.

Being a cabinetmaker, I would've offered, as it only takes about 10 minutes (set the blade to the appropriate angle and rip away) BUT... I'm sure you don't wanna pay for freightage to Melbourne and back

Should be cool. I'm in the Northern Suburbs (Thomastown is where the factory is) so if you want cuts done Fury.. specify what angle needs to produced and if you want a mitre finish or if you want one cut to suit the angle and then you fix that to a standard piece of MDF.
PM me. If my brother has to do it.. he might sting for a small fee... but with me.. I couldn't care less

I'm just a friendly neighbor in this big street
