the pc im on at the moment connects to the net through a dial up on a fax line (sharing with a simple fax/phone)
the other day the fax machine rang, no fax but the computer turned on all by it self :huh: weird!! its not setup with remote turnon or anything like that so im at a loss as to why it did it
anyone go any idears on how its possibe??

so in the bios you haven't got wake on network activity/modem activlty ticked?

few questions before hand. What operating system is it? 2000/XP or older? In 2000 and XP (not sure on other O/Ses) you can get devices to wake the computer apon activity (in this case, the modem line receiving a fax).
This can also be done (as Audio express said) thru the bios.
What also could happen is that power could of cut out, and then came back on and the computer started itself again (this is also another bios option that it restarts to last state or even power on when the power comes back up).
