Hello peoples,
.
I was wondering if you could either explain or point me in the right direction about beginners to the world of competition car audio.
.
For a complete novice what are the basic classes and what do they mean?
.
What tyes of systems relate to each class (ie. subs for .....? SQ for ....?).
.
I always thought these comps were the loudest car wins.
.
Is it all big $$$$$ or a bit like drive days at the track, all shapes and sizes?
.
Thanks Dave

there is basically two types of sound competitions, there is db drag racing, which is basically the loudest car !
and then there is sq competition and that is basically how good the stereo sounds as a broad overview !

within these two forms of competition's there is classes that are separated by types of installations and types of equipment !

and any budget can compete ! if u have a small budget then start in the lower levels of the comps and work ur way up !

hope that helped !

budgets vary from your basic couple of thousand $$$ of equipment to some spending in excess of $20000 on their system.
but no matter what ur budget you can beat anybody with the right install, thats what it all comes down to and not so much, how much you spend, its how good the install is and how well the system is set-up.
power and money comes in not far behind that. and also the quality of your equipment.

but there is alot to learn before ya just go build a car and want to compete like i did. and learnt the hard way and wasted time. so my advise is learn ask questions and search and search more if your going to compete in DB dragracing or SQ comps.

The SQ stuff sounds of interest to me. The db Drag may be a bit too much so a nice seat in the stands probably to watch.

Thanks boys.

actually sq can be quite costly to. Depends on how hardkore u wanna go just like spl. U can go all out or u can just do the best u can with what uve got.

i think SPL dbdrags is prob the cheapest of the two to be competetive in

as SPL is more about how good you install your gear and how its situated in your car. not so much how much it costs or how good the gear is.
an install can make or break you in DB drags so tis a bit easy to compete in i think

just my opinion as was a learner only a year ago myself, and now im right up there and havent spent a fortune on equipment prob bout in total $5500 on current system with install materials excluding cables as they were free.
and $4000 on my old system thats used in another car.

and this is my idea of being serious bout SPL LOL.
some go even bigger spending $4000 on an amp and $2000 just for each sub but yeah depends what ya want to achieve out of the sport as to what u are going to do.

so yeah can get up there in the ranks easier, i think then in SQ

but anyway just ask around learn and you will get there

cheers billy
