5kw's of BASS please
smile.gif Hey all, I have a BMW 320i and the front splits are 5 1/4 ". Now these are a sort of 'rare' type of size you could say and im not sure of how they will perform bass wise. I am looking for some very nice sounding 5 1/4 splits with a good bass hit to them! All my doors are sound deadened. I have no idea on 5 1/4 splits..anyone able to throw some decent model's + numbers and if possible prices perhaps? This would be a great help! I need somthing with a good thump but just as good clarity i have my eye's on the Alpine Type R's.

Please Reply.

Thanks

I'm looking for 5 1/4" too, was looking into the Pioneer ones.

type r's are only available in 6.5's so there out i'm afraid. I'd go for the MBQuart's in a 5.25 in a bmmr, we've had good success with these
Blackrazor
Rainbow SLX-230 Deluxe or DLS PS5

I'd have to agree with blackrazor and recommend Rainbow over Alpine or Pioneer anyday. The latter two brands are okay, but nothing special.

Morel, Diamond and Hertz may be a few other brands worth looking at.

I've got the MBs in my car. I just have the discus range in mine. With the S/D in and the right tuning (which still isnt the best) they sound pretty good now.

Doesn't take much to
a) squeeze some 6.5's in those kick panels.
or, if feeling adenturous
B) custom those panels to fit 6.5's
Id suggest thinking about it

I like the way you think k__p wink.gif...

Sounds good but hell i dont wanna spend too much on the frame work haha sad.gif

Do you have a ruff approx by chance? And what would it involve? Cutting into the current kicker panel or replacing it totally? The only thing stopping me putting some 6" their is that where the hole cut out was made by BMW it so not centred, it is a little higher than the centre thus making 6" speakers imposible too fit unless you want to cut into the carboardy material above...which i do want too avoid..

Thanks

You can simply make up 18mm spacers for those kicks I believe. That will allow you to mount 6.5" drivers up front.

However, brands I would recommend adding to your audition list for your budget include:

Treo
Oz Audio
Digital Designs
Boston
Phoenix Gold
Diamond
DynAudio
Hertz
Focal
Crossfire
Morel
Vibe
Phass
Eton
Lotus

Let your ears do the decision making. Remember the key is too listen to as many products as you can and let your own ears decide for you. There is no special scientific formula behind the choice. Just go with what you like the sound of. Please don't just take our word for it Other audiophiles may well have totally different tastes. Check the products out yourself and see if you remain with the afore mentioned ones or you settle on something else. biggrin.gif

Almost certainly go straight for 6.5". I have a E36 3 Series and went the chop to put 6.5" in. They didn't last long before I modified the kick panels and put 8" speakers up front. smile.gif

On my short list would be:

Dynaudio
Boston
Oz Audio

seen a couple of 320 318 323 with 8" and tweeters in kicks. I had 6.5's just using mdf spacer, then i mod'd my doors and put 2 sets in doors. where are you? take it to a pro if you want and get them to quote on fitting 6.5's, and maybe get a demo of some brands while you're there and choose, i'm sure they'll look after you if you want the to do the install and use their gear.

or try youself
