Ok Ok i hear your cries - do a search you say. but well i dont wanna tongue.gif

What i want is a PC 2.4gig or faster
prefferably an ASUS mobo
DVD drive and DVD writer (if not then 2 x DVD writter) with DVD burning and decoding software
1+ gig of ram
gfx card - something like a 9600xt or 6600gt or something decent
case (something like an Antec P160 or P180 - something quiet)
quiet fans - VERY important
Seagate barracuda SATA 80 & 250gig hdds
digital TV tuner card
Decent sound card.

I dont need a sh!t load of speed - ram is important but most important is reliability and low low noise level.
Software is covered i have an OEM copy of win XP pro here unused. and I use open office for all my "office duties".

Mostly the PC will be used for digital photo storage, music storage and play back, watching TV and recording TV shows and web browsing.

I know basically what I want but i just dont know where to go with what mother board would suit my needs and what gfx card to go and what fans and PSU to get that are silent - or very close to!

Oh and I have looked at the Zalmann fanless case but its just too exy

Why would you prefer an Asus mobo?
~Sparkles~
cause Ive used other Mobos in the past and found that the ASUS are most reliable
AndrewK
I just brought a P180 case, they awesome and so so ever quiet. wont need any more fans as they come with 3 120mm fans.. P160 on the other hand are very very loud compaired to the P180..

As for DVD burners get the new litescribe burners smile.gif (lite-on make one and so do HP) if you are not sure what they do. do a search on google...

Tell us your budget and I'll try and work something out for you, only problem is you would have to come and pick it up tongue.gif
~Sparkles~
haha i''ll give you a budget tonite - you could drive it up when you come to a meet tongue.gif

Actually there might be something down your way soon - a certain pizza shop!

x2...only problem is the waiting time. Im far too impatient to wait ~30mins for some graphics.
AndrewK
Cheaper than printing it onto a disc.. well kinda if only they had litescribe DVD disc for sale tho..

litescribe CD-R from office works 10 for $15 with cases sad.gif

Komodo hopefully I will be able to come to the next meet or event...

Seagate barracuda SATA 80 & 250gig hdds
Should that say 80 or 250GB?
brady123
Just priced one up at Scorptec as a mess around. Came to just over $1500 with 2xDVD-RW and 1x250GB HDD. You will be able to get better prices than Scorptec too. Ill refine it when I get home a bit later. PM me if you have anything you wanna add that isnt in the first post.
~Sparkles~
nope nope & is correct.
I want to use the 80 gig for windows installation and office and that sort of thing and the 250 gig for music and photos only
brady123
Why not buy two 250GB (or lesser size drives) and just partition them. Say have one partition "System" and another "Storage"?

(Why did I drink so much tonight? Typing = bad. O week = smile.gif!)

after having an AMD machine (admittedly on a Gigabyte board) i wouldnt have another in a hurry. its quick and all that type of thing. Just personal prefferance is for Intel and no i cant give reasons
AndrewK
Komodo,

Slowly but surely getting your quote for you tongue.gif

If I dont post it up by mid saturday, i'll give it to you on monday smile.gif
~Sparkles~

@ my place we have 2 AMD desktops, 2 Intel desktops and 2 intel P4 laptops.

i personally like the AMD for gaming. very quick and very OC'able. it all comes down to architecture. basically wat Intel can do AMD can do it more efficiently.

but the pentium M's are a real beast. much better than the AMD equivalents.
