Another question about leagalities in QLD. I'm wondering if airbag suspension is leagl in QLD? my brother is considering getting a hilux for a first car and would "need" to bag it tongue.gif also i wouldn't mind getting some bags for my next car tongue.gif

Buy the latest Hot 4's Magazine and read the article in it about airbagging your vehicle. It will tell you everything you need to know.

Basically forget about it. It can be done but your looking at about 7-8K plus fitting for the kit. As you need self levelrs and all that crap. Then if after all that and do get it engineered, ots still not a lowd to go below 100mm at anytime so if if you have it parked on the deck, you can still be defected and have to take it of the road. I explored all these options for my lexus when looking at suspension and it really isnt worth it. Unless you know someone in NSW then you can register it as NSW car and then its all good.

in qld you CAN have airbags
but you CANT have chassis mods eg notch
so you wont be layin chassis
the only other way to have airbaggs in qld is to buy a truck from nsw with airbags that is engineered then take it up to qld take it to the dot
and you have to do a whole lot of bullcrapin around
for a basic front and back kit your looking at 3500 with a 4 link and notch plates for someone to install all this add around 4 grand to it
then plus your 800 bucks for engineerin then maybe another 1500
for a dakota digital self leveling system

As has already been said, you need an auto levelling kit.

rodizle's prices are basically spot on.

For comparison, ive spent about $6.5k for an initial system on my VS commodore wagon, and now im spending another $3k to get more tanks, more compressors, and dakota digital auto levelling.

My advice....Do it once, do it right the first time. (Yes, this means you will spend close to $10k on suspension)

Agh the Days of my bagged 720.. they were awesome, layin rail everywhere i went.... Then some fool (No names) made it hard for the rest of us to have bags installed..... Unless you plan to register your car interstate, dont Bother in QLD, they are getting tougher on it than ever

I must ask. What happens to your wheel alignment with regards to constatly altering the suspension height??
Is it one of them things that you set at a certain height, then try keep it at that height for the most of it? Because I can see camber in some cars becomming a problem.

Good point....but how much does camber affect driving feel really, as opposed to total grip.
I dont think you buy airbags for performance though...

Still, its a damn good question, anyone know?

I'm talking about scrubbing out tyres mate. I didn't think about how it would affect driving lol, but I guess that is another point.

The alignment does change, but its not really noticeable. I've got 19's as well as bags, so i find that more often then not the car will follow the groves in the road rather then get off track due to alignment.

My car (for daily driving) is normally around the same ride hieght. Obviously there is probably a few MM-CM difference each time i get the car to ride height, but i have a live rear axle, so camber really isnt a problem for me. If i had IRS then im sure it would be!

The only problem i have with live axle is that when i lower/raise the car, the panhard bar goes with it, and kicks the diff to the left/right, which means ive im driving 4WD height, then the driveshaft/tailshaft isnt 100% straight. I've had no problems so far, but im assuming that tailshaft/driveshaft lifetime will be shortened!

I'm currently saving for autolevelling, which should obviously increase my chances of getting the same height each time yahoo.gif

As far as i was aware, airbags/cylinders and any other similar systems like hydraulics were illegal fullstop in QLD. Judging by this it seems there is ways of legally having airbags within QLD but from the amount of research i've done on the subject theres too much stating the opposite.

From what i can understand you would even struggle to get an engineers certificate if it was all spot on because basically, the rule says 'no you can't have them' so the rules don't delve into the do's and don'ts regarding their installation into a car/truck etc.

Anybody seen the wine coloured Lancer with bags in #144 Hot4s (just released), it had the airbag installation done in NSW and was then brought into QLD but i wasn't aware this was legal either so whats the dealio sad.gif .

Too much effort at any rate but if it were legal it would definately be something i'd comtemplate.
