Full Version: What Sub And What Amp?

Well i'm after sub, amp and a box.

This is my problem i know nothing much about car audio as only just got my first car 3 weeks ago and got my HU and 4 speakers about 1 week ago and i want to add a sub so the car will go "D00f D00f" smile.gif

At the moment i have borrowed a 12" Crossfire Sub 275w Max and a 2 channel Crossfire amp 140w.

______________________________________

I currently have this Hu and speakers in a 1988 Ford Mavrick 4WD Short wheelbase.

HU: Pioneer 8650MP
Front Speakers: Pioneer 4 way 260w Max 6"
Back Speakers: Pioneer 3 way 350w Max 6x9"
Wirring: I have run a 4g postive wire from the battery to the amp that i'm borrowing and a 8g earth wire from the amp to the chassis and a 12g wire from the HU remote to the amp.

My budget is $600.00 (Can't go any higher!)

My aim with the audio system in this car is to look good and sound nice and deep base. I prefer the sound of the sub cranking and sound out of the speakers maybe not as loud so getting a 4 channel amp and bridging 2 for the sub and 2 for the front speakers i don't really want to.

I'm thinking of going with a Mono block amp and a 12" sub and i'm not sure how to tell what box is needed unsure.gif

So my aim in this thread is to get everyones "two Bobs worth" on what i should do to improve over the crossfire sub and amp becuase when cranked to volume 20 on the HU the sub seems to distort a bit.
I want to get a sub and amp that i can add another sub to later and run both off the same amp and have good quailty but $600 might not make that work or will it biggrin.gif ?

Thanks for ya help

Rick.

From what I’ve learnt over the past couple of months this is my two bobs worth.

I bought a Pioneer 1200W sub and Kenwood 1000W amp for $679 which are okay but it all depends on what you consider “good quality”. The amp is powerful enough for another sub but as I’ve heard over and over, one good sub is better than two less quality subs and I’m now thinking in the direction of Vibe, Digital Designs, Image Dynamics, Dyn Audio and Boston etc etc. Have a look at http://forum.hot4s.com.au. They have a thread “What’s the best system can I get for XXXX dollars?” I found it a great help in deciding what to do. I have already bought a Boston amp and am still procrastinating over what sub to buy.

Also, it is better to have a more powerful amp than the sub and have the gain set not too high to make sure you don’t get distortion from the amp. Have a look at the tutorials on this website about all this stuff.

Just one other thing, you do intend to update your front stage at some time don’t you?
Oh, and just one other thing

GO THE REDS!
