well I'm planning to change the Headunit of my Holden Comm.
its still under warranty, should i inform them that I'm going to change the headunit? because right now its a double din tape player... and i have no use for it
I'm planning to install a Pioneer CD/mp3 player into it
i don't see why they should say no... should i tell them I'm going to change? because if i get in a accident or car just cracks it they'll say i modified it or something
cheers

best to inform them they might insist on their monkeys to do it though but i dont see that as a problem
The only way it will have any effect on your warranty, is if the installation of the headunit causes something to fail.
If your motor blows up and they see your headunit, they won't knock you back.

Make sure you tell you insurance, forget telling the car manufacturer.
The car manufacturer warrants the parts of your car and will warrant any equipment of theirs that they have installed and serviced. You lose warranty on the factory headunit but otherwise nothing changes.
The insurance company however will be quite able to cancel your policy if they find out that your car was modified unbeknowst to them, and you had an accident.
I personally know someone who's insurance was voided because the insurer found a non-stock headunit installed (AAMI if anyone is interested). So be warned, it shouldn't increase your premium but your insurer will want to know.

Its an insurance company.
AAMI are notorious for paying out small claims, but if your cars a write off, you had better believe that if one thing on your car is non-standard and not claimed, you aint getting a cent.

ive found that msot insurance companied will charge you more for a modified vehicle over stock but dependant on vehicle they dont care how many you have(mods that is) so find out and tell them about everything.

Holden wont care if you change your head unit.
Your insurance company will. It shouldnt be classed as a modification, Its an accessory. Your insurance shouldnt go up by anything more than about $20 a year if at all.. Chances are it would cost the insurance company more to replace a factory unit than it would the aftermarket..

I always thought AAMI were meant to be good, well to deal with at least, maybe SWANN wasnt so bad even though i had to do everything for them and it took them ages to approve though they didnt have any problems approving it even with stereo, 17" mags, and lowering on a barina none of which was listed with the insurance, so maybe I was lucky they didnt decide to argue the claim.

as far as insurance companies go, they are fantastic, but they are still an insurance company
