Is it legal to delock door handles, i.e. remove key lock mechanism from the door (obviously keeping it clean and removing it properly!)? I will leave my boot "keyed" so i CAN get access if something does go wrong... Is it an ok idea? Only problem is my car has deadlocks that can only be undone via drivers door key or keyfob... so if it's deadlocks and screws up, i'm most likely rooted... lol... What is the law with these? there will still be handles

I think as long as u can open the door from outside the vehicle incase of emergency - then it's ok.
I enquired about this when I wanted to remove my key entry locks...was told I'd need to be able to get the doors open if I happen to roll the car etc...
Can I ask how you deadlocked ur doors?

the deadlocking section is on the back of the lock itself, so once u remove the lock the deadlock is removed,
u might want to check with your insurance company b4 u do it.
and make sure the solinoids u get for the central are the best u can get!

Nah i've got an astra, the deadlocking is a separate sliding bolt that goes into the actual lock on the inside of the door, you don't use the key to make it work, but if you have to you can use the key to make it "unwork" lol... The astra's come stock with them, once doors are deadlocked, you can lift the little button inside the car and the door is still locked, kinda works on a separate thing... nothing to do with the actual handle itself, it's lower in the door where people can't reach... which would be bad if i had to actually get it out, but good because it means no one else can get in (or at least they'll have trouble with the doors)... Basically the rear door handles on a 4 door and the front door ones are interchangable, same size, etc, and the "key" part is in the handle itself, so to remove it you just take out the old one and put a new one in... works straight away... just wondering if i can get away with it for rego......

I'm almost 100% sure you can remove the locks themselves, but in most states you need to keep the handles.
I'm also pretty sure in WA, you only need one handle per door, so you can remove the outside ones provided you keep the inside ones.
I'd check with the local authorities before doing it, but everyone does it to their commodores these days (Street Commodores even did an article on removing all the locks come to think of it, so it must be legal). They said to keep a lead from the +ve terminal tucked down under the front bumper incase your battery ever goes flat, which isnt a bad idea...

I have no locks on the xr8 (well there was only one on the doors and that was drivers). It got broken into by a st00ge punching the lock in so It got left out when it got repaired. Never had a problem just remember to replace the battery to the control every so often just in case. Also Find out how to break into you car (every car has ways) so u can get in if you stuck
