OK here's a strange one for the 1337

I just brought a new pioneer A07 dvd burner. I've burned a couple of 'backups' of my dvds but I've now got a problem with actually reading dvds.

I tried xmen 1.5 first and it wouldn't play let alone rip. I tried it in a few different players (power dvd 5 and WMP) and it wouldnt go. In PD5 you press play and nothing happens. In WMP it tried to load the menu nad then just stutters.
After fiddling back and forth with a few different programs (smart ripper, dvdshrink etc) and a reboot I eventually got it to rip.
The next one I'm trying is american pie - no luck tho. It won't play at all, sometimes I get error messages sometimes it just hangs. I got a message once or twice about not being able to play due to analog copy protection and in dvdshrink in says read failed due to CSS something or other. My vid card has tv out but nothing is connected and I tried disabling the card and using a standard vga driver but still no luck.

Anyone got any ideas ? It's really sh1tting me that I can't even play some movies now...

hrmm, unusual how the burner doesnt play the dvds... could just be a region problem, tho i hope its not that simple..

and smart ripper, etc require the dvd to be played for say, 10 seconds or so, so it can find the decryption key to be able to backup the dvd

try seeing if there are any updated drivers for the dvd burner... might solve ur problems..

Yeah it does it in both the burner and the dvdrom drive I really don't want to have to reinstall - AGAIN. I've reinstalled power dvd but no joy. I'm wondering if its got to do with the sonic cinecraft type decodes that came with the burner...

I got a MS dvd decoder patch and that seems to have stopped the WMP crashes and it now just says there's a problem with my analog copy protection.

So yeah, I'm not even making it to smart ripper coz I can't get it to play in a software player!
