Hey guys,

I've got a guitar with a pickup, 6.5mm socket/1/4" socket.

The sound card I have is a M-Audio Firewire Audiophile, it has RCA stereo input, MIDI input and a S/PDIF input.

I'm trying to decide what that best option is without degrading the quality by have a few adaptors or whatever.

The signal out of a pickup from the 6.5mm plug is mono isnt it?
So so far I'v come up with getting a '6.5mm socket to male rca plug' but then i'll only be able to connect it to either the left or right rca input, and if i get a splitter it'll reduce the strength quite a bit.

So then I had a quick search on S/PDIF and it said it lets a digital signal pass straight through without converting it to analogue then back again.. So question is: Would it work have a 6.5mm cable(standard guitar lead) to a '6.5mm socket to male rca' and connect that to the S/PDIF input??

Thanks guys!

You can't connect your guitar straight to the S/pdif input on your S/card. Cheapest method would be a 6.5mm phono to 4.5mm Phone lead (all mono). You can also connect a Line 6 pod or similar guitar effects processor to run a line out of to your "anolog in" or "Mic In" on the card. It will be a balanced output, or alternatively find a midi interface. (very expensive )

i just checked it out and its not really designed for guitarists, but its usable, seeing as the only inputs for analoge signal are the rca's you could get a adapter, you may need a DI box though if theres any impedience issues.

a interface would be a better idear, there is some cheaper ones around or maybe something like a m-audio black box or line6 toneport or guitarport although there not that cheap but the toneport is around $250.

you could even use the 2track output of a small mixer and connect straight up!

Cheers guys!

I looked into the Guitar port and I like the look of it, gonan try get my hands on one.
It's good as it has RCA outs on it so I can directly conenct it to the m-audio box.

I've noticed its like half the price if I get it from Ebay guys in the US. I just signed up to Paypal smile.gif

Thanks,

Hey i've been looking at the Tone Port now as not many shops keep the guitar port in stock now.

My question is will it work for me.

The tone port has 1/4" stereo outputs, that means two guitar lead sockets(for left and right)? I've seen small 'guitar lead to rca' patch leads, could i connect it this way since i only have RCA inputs on my sound card?

Tone Port UX1

Cheers!

Those look ideal if you ask me. 1 x Normal Guitar lead from guitar to UX1. 1 x 1/4" stereo lead from unit to soundcard. Easy, & the unit powers off USB too, excellent biggrin.gif

Cool, cheers guys!

The Tone port has: 'Stereo Line Outputs via two 1/4-inch'
That would mean Left mono 1/4" socket and a Right 1/4" socket yea?

Or does that mean theres two stereo 1/4" sockets?

It would be better if it's one for Left and right as I only have RCA inputs on my soundcard, so all I would have to do is get a 1/4" to Rca like this

Also I looked at the Mixer option which is good, but I want the software that comes with these line6 interfaces cause I want to use all the effects etc too...

Cheers,

Steve
