Ok I just purchased a 6600GT 256mb AGP card.

I connected it up, but when its in my monitor won't go on. It has power, but just won't turn on. Is my power supply just not good enough or is there something else that could be wrong?

1)Watt power supply ( get it "watt laugh.gif )sigh.?
2) What Motherboard
3) are you getting multiple beeps at starup?
4) what Vid card did you have before hand.?
Bodyjar
1) its a 300W "smart power"? I think... it's an Antec case I dont know exactly what kind it is...

2) Abit VA-11 or 11

3) No beeps at startup. It starts up normally, just no monitor. Windows doesnt seem to recognise it when it is connected either

4) None, was using onbaord graphics from motherboard... sad.gif
Fr3aKi3
oh.... so you were using the integrated vid card.

Have look in the BIOS as it's probably set to use the integrated vid card rather then the one installed into the AGP slot
Bodyjar
How might I do that? I am a noob sad.gif

And how does that explain my monitor not working?
Pulse-R
yeah, try plugging the monitor into the old socket, until you get the drivers loaded for the new one, then swap the monitor over, and disable the built-in one in the BIOS, or use both together
Bodyjar
I can't load the drivers without the card in it, and i can't use my monitor with the card in... catch 22...

mosoto
OK so
1) plug your monitor into the old connector on the mobo.
2) un-instal the driver base for the onboard graphics - Start > Control Panel > Add remove Programs.
3) reboot & hit Del at the drives detection posts
4) go into BIOS (basic input output system) and turn off the onboard graphics (check manual for where)
5) F10 and Yes to save bios settings
6) At this point you will have no monitor output on reboot so just turn your machine off (press & hold button for 5 sec)
7) Plug monitor into Graphics card and Start up PC
dirol.gif You should have basic low res display and when windows posts it will do the "Found new hardware" routine so follow the prompts
good luck
Bodyjar
Tried that...

mosoto, thanks for the info, I will give it a run after I finish work.
