im planing to move the 6.5" type-x alpines from my front doors and put them in the rear and buying the 4" split and 6.5" mid-bass kit 3-way setup.

the midbass woofers will go in the doors no probs, i was throwing ideas around and i saw that some alpine cars hav they tweaters at eye level on the a-pillars and i thought i could mount the 4" woofers at the base of the pillar on the dash both firing accross to the opposite sides seating position. the x-overs will giv me the tuning flexability, i was just wondering how well in practice such a design will go, appart from looking trick!

so what do u think? it will bring the staging very high up yes?

i also hav a pair of fosgate 8" subs, i had the idea of mouting one under a front seat, in the passenger footwell or on the centre hump behind the console. any thoughts on this? or is it just purley a wanky idea?

cheers fellas

the subs up front idea will work.. providing you have the room for a proper enclosure.. major cutting will require reinforcing..
i had a pair of P2 8's which i was gonna put up front in my VS, but there wasnt much room for the boxes to be built for them. under the seats may prove almost impossible, but you could mount them in front of the seats, similar to something Cyberpunky has done with his Dynaudio 8" midbass..

as for the midrange/tweeter on the dash/a-pillar.. its been done a few times already.. in show cars.. and i think top comp cars in europe..

ok so if its been done b4, how effective is it? i dont want to waste time and money doin it, i imagine the staging to be very high and potentially very bright if not tuned rite. is that a fair call?

will it sound as good as it looks?

as for the 8" pounders, does in front of the seats mean like under ur legs almost? they were so close to fitting under the seats it wasnt funny! if i bought the 02+ honda 5dr civic like i intended them for it would hav worked fine! the passender seat might hav scraped in but the driver seat posed the risk of hitting it and fowling the adjustments. i also was told that id had to 'high pass' the 8" subs so they wont play too loud.

You'd probably have to "low pass" them so they dont play too HIGH. You only need them to play up to the point where the midrange speaker will take over.

Low pass filter - Anything below the filter frequency is allowed, anything above is cut, at a rate proportional to the slope of the filter (decibels per octave, db/oct) which can be variable (1,2, 6, 12, 24 db/oct etc).

If your using a big sub in the boot, you can also HIGH PASS them, but down low, get it? high pass it at, say, 45 hz. So anything above 45hz gets played by the 8". anything below, by the bigger sub in the boot.
