Hey everyone,

Just got home and recieved a speeding fine in the mail today. It was in the Burnley tunnel and the speed I was clocked at was 70km. Now the reason why im questioning this is becuase the tunnell is usually a 80km zone. The camera was 400m from the entry of the tunnell so I find it a kinda stupid that I got it is before the tunnell its a 100km zone. How can they expet to slow down from 100 to under 60 in such a short distance. Usually its a 80km zone in the tunnell but this day apparently was 60km. Whats the chances of depating this???

Thanks for any input.

Regards,
Oppressa
Well if you ARE right and it's normally 80 but was made 60 on that day, just as a guess you may have some recourse. Just explain that in the letter/court. But they'll prob. just say driving conditions change all the time. Don't expect every road to be exactly the same every day.

typical revenue raising bull$hit, it's a common trap, they take a high traffic area with a regular speed limit of 80 kph (tunnels and bridges are favourites) and knock the speed limit down to 60 every fortnight or so..... thousands of ppl have been caught out like that

My mate got done by a camera cause they are linked to the speed signs one was faulty.

After months they contacted him saying sorry and took the points off but refused to refund him .. what a ****ing joke!

Yep usually it is a 80km zone but on that night it happened to be a 60 zone. The issue is that the camera was 400 meters into the tunnel from the enterance. Before the tunnell is 100km zone. So from the time you see the road sign saying its a 60 rather then 80 zone, how can they expect you to slow down in such a small amount of time without causing an accident. The lady I spoke to from the RTA also said the same thing aswell when I spoke to her this morning.

I wouldnt mind paying the fine if I was doing 90 in a 80 zone but because they happened to change it due to road works down to 60, I find it a load of s**t!

What do you guys think? Whats the chances of disputing the fine?

Try it, can't hurt.

They are variable speed things, the Ring road has them as well, at peak times the are usually lower and perhaps thats why it was 60 instead of 80. Having said that you were going faster then what you should have been doing, and everyone else had to brake from 100 down to 60. Your also saying two things, your saying its normally 80 and today it was 60 (assuming your taking it for granted it will always be 80) then you say you woudn't have enough time to stop.

I don't like your chances and i think you should cop it on the chin. By saying what you have said in your post, it would make it seem your not really paying attentiopn cos those signs are bright and you took it for granted it would be 80.
Ignorance is not a excuse.

I know it is a variable speed thing and I know it is usually 80 in there. It was after 10pm so i dont think it was peak hour in there. The camera I got booked on was only 400 meters into the tunnell. How far into the tunnell is the speed sign saying its 60. Im sure its atleast a 100 meters at the least.

I wouldnt mind copping it on the chin if I was doin 90 and it was 80. Thats fair enough and it would have been my fault for doing that speed. But to slow down to 60 in a short amount of time in somewhere where it is usually 80.

Where are these bloody cameras?
Whats stupid is that theres a nice dip so even if ur riding ur brakes, ur car slowly creeps well over the speed limit. Assmunchers
BRACKS!!!!!!!

Anyway, give it a shot - contesting fines normally doesn't end up working out.

The camera I got booked on was 420 meters from the tunnell entrance comming from the airport way going into the city. I think there is another further into the tunnel and a few more in there coming from the SE suburbs into the city but am not sure where.

Well mate, I understand you think you went speeding, fair enough. But every man and his dog KNOWS that the tunnels HAVE speed cameras. I dont even come close to speeding in them. If you are comming up to them and you do over the limit, I think you'll have to cop this one. I would feel for you if you were on some back street and got done doing 60 in a 50 zone but the tunnel, everyone in Melbourne knows the cameras are there.
Saying that but, it still bloody hurts when you get the fine, and money that couldm have been spent drinking OR buying new car audio gear ;D

Yeah I know theres always cameras in there. Thats what pisses me off even more. The fact that I am always careful in there cause I drive through there alot. Stupid variable speeds.

Oh well mate, guess you'll have to drink beers for a couple of weeks instead of sprits, oh damn Bathurst this weekend, oh damn again...looks like sunny weather weekend after!!!
