Hey guys I'm terrified that I just got caught using my mobile by a police speed camera.
I was on the phone for like 5 seconds to say I was driving.
Can a police speed camera tell I'm on the phone at night?
I saw the flash when I was 30 metres away, but Im willing to bet my life I was under 60 and the people in front of me said they were under 60 aswell..
I saw a car come the other way like 8 seconds later. Could he have caught the other person?

you could always pay the $8 shipping fee and have the photo sent out to u...if there is another vehicle in the shot, then you can fight the fine (provided you are correct about being nabbed) and you will win.
and as far as i know, you cant be done for being on the phone from a speed camera picture

sometimes they flash every car when they are setting up. You see people slow right down to 40kph and get flashed, and get pretty pissed.

although a speed camera is only able to get you for speeding i heard the other day that someone was flashed for speeding although they were also on the phone, when it went to police head quarters or wherever it is that it goes, he was also done for talking on his phone at the same time..... now i dont know whether this is true or not, just a story from on the grape vine
all in all you should be right if you were doing the speed limit, also im pretty sure they are set to flash all the time when the film is empty or being changed at the time.... another story from the grape vine, just wait and see champ

To me, logic would say you will be booked for being on the phone if they look at it. Photographic evidence is fairly strong.

yeah if they saw you and have the photo you will get done, a friend went past doing under the speed limit and got flashed so he went back to see if it would happen again- and it did, so he stopped and asked the cop why he got flashed by the camera... the cop said ""you didnt have your seatbelt on"...... so he got done twice for not wearing a seatbelt... whoops!!

The cop didnt say nothing unless your talking about like 10plus years ago cause Tenix are the contractors who opperate the speed cameras in Victoria - not Vic Police.
I also strongly doubt that they could tell sitting in a vehicle some 60-120 feet away that you werent wearing a seat belt - i have good eyes and i cant tell if the person next to me at the lights has their seatbelt on or not quite often.
Second of all do you really think that they could see into your car to see that you were talkin on your phone? no sh!t you think how big and fu ck off bright that flash was. Now if im not mistaken window glass is pretty reflective. dark surrounds, night time, big flash, lots of reflection = less than 2/5ths of fu ck all chance that they could see you were opperating anything let alone a phone inside your car from a photograph. plus they woulnt be looking for it - they are looking at your rego - not looking to see if you sport a retrimed leather interior and oh look the drivers on the phone lets nab them for that too.

A guy got busted on the news about 2 years ago in QLD for talking on his mobile at a camera... So I'd assume they can see in the windows.

I suppose you can always contest that you were not actually talking on the phone... but posing for the shot =)

Nice try Komode, Unfortunately given the rake of the windscreen there would be 2/5ths of fook all reflection.
Infact the interior of the car lights up like a christmas tree. The only reflection would be from the beads of sweat on his brow & the whites of his eyes
and btw, the White Flash is daytime use, the red flash night time. well over here it is because studies have shown that a flash of white light at night, can lower ones vision for a period of time making it hard for a person to drive and become less aware of the surroundings in front.
All Novas can be triggered by the operator too, and the seatbelt story I'm absolutely sure, has it's origin in every state of Oz. I've heard it soooooooo many times and it's always someones m8.
