Hi Everybody
This number actually exists here in Australia.
Read this!! & then send it to all your friends!
I never even knew about this No. 112 feature! This actually happened to someone's daughter. Lauren was 19 yrs old and in college. This story takes place over the Christmas/New Year's holiday break.  It was the Saturday before New Year's and it was about 1 PM in the afternoon, and Lauren was driving to visit a friend. An UNMARKED police car pulled up behind her and put his lights on.  Lauren's parents have 4 children (high school and college age) and have always told them never to pull over for an unmarked car on the side of the road, but rather wait until they get to a gas station, etc. So Lauren had actually listened to her parents' advice, and promptly called No. 112 on her cell phone to tell the police dispatcher that she would not pull over right away. She proceeded to tell the dispatcher that there was an unmarked police car with a flashing red light on his rooftop behind her.
The dispatcher checked to see if there was a police car where she was and there wasn't and he told her to keep driving, remain calm and that he had back-up already on the way. Ten minutes later 4 cop cars surrounded her and the unmarked car behind her. One policeman went to her side and the others surrounded the car behind. They pulled the guy from the car and tackled him to the ground.........the man was a convicted rapist and wanted for other crimes.
I never knew that bit of advice, but especially for a woman alone in a car, you should not pull over for an unmarked car. Apparently police have to respect your right to keep going to a "safe" place. You obviously need to make some signals that you acknowledge them (i.e., put on your hazard lights) or call No. 112 like Lauren did. Too bad the cell phone companies don't give you this little bit of wonderful information.
So now it's your turn to let your friends know about No. 112. This is good information that I did not know!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Please pass on to any females that you know Have a great weekend!

Ummmm isn't 112 the international emergency number on GSM networks?
Stooge007
yup. 112 is the emergency number you dial from your mobile if you need police/fire/ambulance. it's like 000 for mobiles.

dialling the number costs nothing, and can even be dialled when there is no SIM in the phone, and/or no reception on your phone.

i had to dial 112 the other day to get an ambulance, but i would NOT recommend that people go dialling this number at the drop of a hat. treat it like dialling 000 on your home phone, and understand the consequences of prank calls!!!

this 112 number is good for mobile phone users, let say if ur car break-down in the middle of bush!.. u alway can get help.... base on those story (true or not but it happened) unmarked police chasing a gal... it's just a good idea, when ur phone cant pick/has no reception/singal... doesnt mean u have to use it, it only emergency if ur phone is out of range from ur network coverage...

You still need at least one of the networks available to make the call yes?

Did The email say to send it to 10 people otherwise you'll have badluck ?
Chronos
Also you might notice that on most (all?) phones you can dial 112 even with the keylock on, which might be useful in a real emergency situation
BIGW
same with 000 with the keylock, you can also dial 000 befroe you have put in your initial PIN

If you have a GSM digital mobile phone you can be connected to the emergency call service by dialling '000' as with other phones. However, because GSM is an international standard, GSM mobile phone users can also be connected to emergency services by dialling the international emergency call number '112'.

When dialling '112' on GSM mobile phones, access is provided regardless of the presence or validity of the SIM card within the phone, or whether the keypad is locked. The '112' number cannot be dialled from the fixed network.

[*]'112' can be dialled anywhere is the world with GSM coverage and callers will be automatically translated to that country's particular emergency number.

[*]A caller is able to connect to the emergency services answering point if GSM mobile coverage is available from any carrier's network at the location of the call.  [/list:u:e9dd5e1a0b]In Australia, it is a mandatory obligation for '112' to be built into GSM mobile phones. While this is not the case with CDMA mobile phones-as the international standards for CDMA do not require '112'-some mobile carriers have enabled '112' access in their CDMA mobile phones. However, this service does not have the extra capabilities, such as roaming and PIN override, that '112' has on GSM networks. For further details regarding '112' access on a CDMA phone, consumers should talk to their mobile service providers.

umm good story for the grandkids,

But good adivce on the 112.

Also IIRC 112 gets preference over 000 calls.

Also ill add that 112 on a mobile will also work of theres no SIM in there i think. Its will use ANY avalable network too. And is to be treated like the 000 number as they CAN and WILL trace the location of the call.

Eg your stuck in the bush and cant talk or sumthing, you keep rining the 112 number and they figure sumthing is wrong they can pick up on the signal and find you.
NUTTTR
You still need some form of network coverage, i mean, if you are in the middle of no where with no coverage on any network, dialling 112 won't get ya jack all!
I thought everyone already knew about 112? Breaking down is NOT an emergency either... would you call 000 if you broke down? unless someone's chasing you with an axe and ya car broke down, i wouldn't be calling it
