Someone here was asking about home made go-karts for a school project, it was like a year ago, is that person still on here? Did you make one? Can I get a copy of the plans/photos?
Does anyone else have some experience in doing it?
What engine did you use? What parts do you need on the engine/drive train side of things.
We want it as an off road buggy, the alfa is too heavy haha
We wanna work out a cost as well, i mean we prolly wont spend more than $600 on it... so yeah.

I dunno if he ended up making it or not.

Nah never got round to - too much effort to get the drivetrain parts
I did get hold of some whipper snipper motors so when I find a cheap scooter that will be motorised

reg, did u do any planning? or did u give up on the drive train ?
that is our main issue, we want independant suspension, which means CV joints.....unless we make it solid rear, but we have the rear suspended still, all in one....that will be the easiest way, but independant would be beter.
if you have any plans, throw them my direction please? i wanna get some ideas

Nah mate got nothing sorry.
It was gonna be a joint project between me and some mates, but we never even found a suitable engine and the enthusiasm was lacking from ma mates so it never happend.
Do a search, there's a couple of good sites out there

HA HA gocarts are cool
My bro put a Honda CT90 motor on the side of a gocart frame we had out the back.
Jeepers did that thing get up and boogie
Can u say 80km/h spin outs coolllll
it almost got rolled once coz i hit a ditch sliding sideways
little 4spd manual box good fun on the salt flats especially after rain HE EH
We had the thing smokin in tight donuts on the bittumen
till something went plop in the gear box now shes sitting waiting for a YZ125 motor hes got too put on it

so the CT90 was pretty good?
I was thinkin along the lines of that, as they would be easy to find (well easier than other engines)
We were worried they wouldnt have enough power.

Well it went like hell IMO.
Depends what your after.
My bro had that motor hooked up on the right hand side of the cart with a handle joined onto the gear change peg with the cluth on that so u just pull the cluthc in with the same hand as changin gears.
But yeah he had a low ratio sprocket configuration on it for lots of bottom end grunt.
Id recomend the CT 90 but if u want more go for a 125 or 250 2stroker.
My bro picked up a 94model YZ125 motor for $500 running fine.
So me thinks the carts gonna go like a rat up a drainpipe with the 125motor init.

this is what i plan to do, if we make this one workable, we will make a proper one and spend a bit of money...
as for me getting a cheap engine, i will just have to check out the local wreckers

My mates dad is building a nice cart, he is currently fabricating the chassy to accomodate the 2000 YZ250 motor he picked up, and the radiator it needs.
Its gonna be sweet
